BARBARA ANNE BOYLE HARDIN, one of Germantown's distinguished teachers passed away on November 13, 2005 at her home. She was born January 15, 1952 in Great Bend, KS to Dale E. Boyle and Mary Anne Payne. Moving from Wichita, KS to Oklahoma City in 1964, Barbara grew up to the tune of Boomer Sooner. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1974 with a B.A. in Foreign languages, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. In 1985, she attained her masters in Educational Administration from the University of Memphis with a minor in Latin. Barbara married Charles Tim Hardin in 1974 and they lived in Kansas City for 5 years and then moved to the Memphis area in 1979. Barbara Hardin was a shining example of the teaching profession. She was the Germantown High School Foreign Language Department Head from 1987 to 2003. She most recently won the 2004 Humanities Teacher of the Year for the State of Tennessee. Her other awards include, TN Classical Association Teacher of the Year, Foreign Language Teacher of the Year from the University of Memphis in 2003, Distinguished teacher from the White House Commission on Presidential scholars in 1998 and 1990 and many more. Carpe Diem was her motto and she was very active in the Germantown Community. She is survived by her mother, Mary Anne Boyle of Cordova; her brother, Richard Boyle of Cordova; her sister and brother in law, Linda and Ronald Lang of Orlando, FL and nephew and niece, Christopher and Brenna Lang as well as many beloved friends. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 19 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Memphis Humane Society.
