Bag of the Month

November 7th

Zippy Bag

This month I’m teaching my Bag of the Month class a bit early. Sorry! I’ll be out of town, there’s Thanksgiving week and then my first grandchild will be born sometime at the end of the month so… our date is November 7th. It was a really fun one to make. I was so pleased the front zipper pockets came together quite nicely. Here goes another fun bag!

Bring to Class:

Your sewing machine in good working order, a new 90 topstitch needle, marking pen/pencil that will disappear, tool to measure ¼’ and ½” seams, snip scissors, fabric cutting scissors, strongpins, and any tools you usually use to sew with.

Purchase:

____ Bag of the Month Class Fee $35.00 (Remember after paying for the class you get 15% off any supplies for

the class that you purchase at our shop.)

____ 3 zippers (14” or longer)

____ coordinating thread

____ 1/3 yard - Contrast Fabric A for strap and exterior gusset

____ 3 fat quarters of coordinating fabric – This will make the outer 3 zipper pockets and their linings

____ 1/3 yard Contrast Fabric B for exterior body panels and zipper casing for top of purse closure

____ 1/3 yard lining

____ 1 yard of 809 Décor Bond fusible interfacing

Please cut out before class:

____ All paper pattern pieces

____ Do notcut out the fabric or interfacing for the outer zipper pocket pieces using the A-C paper patterns.

We will do that in class.

Do cut out:

____ Body Piece Pattern cut (2) Contrast Fabric B

____ Body Piece Pattern cut (2) Lining Fabric

____ Body Piece Pattern cut (4) Décor Bond fusible interfacing

____ Interior Pocket cut (2) Lining Fabric or cut from any other fabric if you want it to “show up” on the inside

____ Zipper Casing Cut (2) Contrast Fabric B

____ Strap - cut (1) 6” wide x width of fabric. If you think you might like a skinnier strap, as I made, cut a

5” x WOF piece.

____ Strap interfacing (809 Décor Bond) Cut (1) 6” x width of interfacing or cut it 5” wide if that’s your choice.

____ Gusset – Cut (1)3 ½” x 30 ½” of Contrast Fabric A and(1) of lining fabric

____ Gusset – Cut (2) 3 ½” x 30 ½” 809 Décor Bond

Iron fusible interfacing (use a hot iron, steam and patience):

____ iron the strap interfacing to the wrong side of the strap fabric

____ iron the gusset interfacings (1) to each of the Contrast Fabric A and lining pieces

____iron the (4) body panel interfacings to the (2) exterior body panels and the (2) lining body panels

Please bring all extra fabrics and interfacings, your pattern pieces, your pattern and all supplies noted above to class. Thanks for all you do to get ready for class!
