Job Title: Trainee Audio Visual Workshop Technician

Job Description

Background:The Trainee AV Workshop Technicianis an entry level role within the Technical Services team based within the Technical Services Workshop.

Job Purpose:To provide support to the AV Technical Operations Manager and team in the preparation and maintenance of AV equipment, ensuring safe transportation to site and return.

Main Duties:

  • To attend morning briefings as appropriate to determine work schedule deadlines and planning for the day and week(s) ahead.
  • To undertake AV workshop duties as directed and requested by the AV Technical Operations Manager.
  • To liaise with and provide support to the AV Technical Operations Manager keeping them updated with the progress of work.
  • To support the department with the effective and safe storage and organisation of all AV kit.
  • To provide support with the general care and maintenance of all AV equipment, ensuring that faults are brought to the attention of the AV Service Maintenance & Projects Manager.
  • To help prepare sound, video, lighting, rigging and IT kit ready for live events considering all possible eventualities.
  • To gain an understanding of how all AV kit operates and to support the team by observing and following best practice through discussion, training and practical demonstration.
  • When trained to provide extra resource with PAT testing when required.
  • To participate in the loading and unloading of vehicles as equipment leaves and returns to the workshop.
  • To co-operate with weekend rotas where necessary and holiday requests thus ensuring the Technical Department is always covered adequately and not breaching any health and safety regulations.
  • To cover for holidays, sickness and absences in the workshop.
  • To work safely and within Health & Safety regulations at all times and to familiarise yourself with the health and safety policy seeking further training and development if required.
  • To be a proactive team member within Pb engaging professionally with internal staff whilst also acting as an ambassador for Pb externally.

Qualifications/Skills:

A relevant qualification/work experience ideally gained in a technical discipline(D)

Awareness of Health & Safety regulations such as electrical safety, working from ladders, lorry movements, tail lifts, etc. (E)

An aptitude for technical skills and some understanding of Audio Visual equipment with respect to sound/lighting (D)

Proficient PC skills (E)

Good administrative and organisational skills (E)

Ability to problem solve using initiative (E)

Excellent Interpersonal and communications skills (E)

Experience:

Knowledge of live events and exhibitions and the type of electrical systems and technology used (D)

Experience of working in a pressurised environment and meeting deadlines (D)

Undertaking work which requires a high degree of attention to detail and checking(E)

A multi-tasker who has the ability to prioritise and manage own workload (E)
