MS Enrichment

JIS Explorers
Grade 5 - Grade 8
/ An exciting action based program for students who would like to be involved in a wide range of different educational, fun activities. The activities are primarily based outdoors and some have a community service component. Each day offers a new destination and adventure. The week's activities will include some of the following depending on availability. Bowling, visit to a local school in Cisarua ( Puncak area) and a hiking in the local area. Horse riding in Cinere, visit to a street children's organization, where later a small group will accompany us to the water park for lunch and swimming. The last day will include a film revue, cooking our own feast for lunch and then sharing some highlights of the week. This year we are also introducing mountain biking in Sukabumi during the second week.Students will also be expected to make and prepare a short multi media presentation of the week's events to be shown and shared on the last day. This can be a combination of a digital photo journal, video, powerpoint display, sketch book, diary entries, or an individual idea can be discussed. All activities will be supervised by Mr Pearce and two student counselors. Transportation will be provided by Blue Bird Buses and the program lasts for the whole day 7:30- 3:00pm. Spaces will be limited so book in early.

MindLab - Purple
Grade 5 - Grade 8
/ The Mindlab Purple is a structured program of fun learning activities for 12-14 year olds covering cognitive, social, emotional and ethical skills which they will need to throughout their lives.
In this course, the children learn many important skills as forward planning, decision making, collaboration, tactics and strategies, probability, empathy, sportsmanship and many more!
The Mindlab Purple program will be rounded off by the Mindlab Olympics which will give the children the opportunity to use all the techniques, methodologies and strategies they have learned in an exciting and challenging way.

YoungBiz Smart Start to Money
Grade 5 - Grade 8
/ This dynamic course enables teenagers to understand vital personal finance, saving and investing principles – knowledge that will empower them for a future of successful financial management. Students learn skill in banking, budgeting, and being a wise consumer, as well as how to avoid the overuse of credit.
The programs are active, participatory and fun and aimed at every young person in the room leaving with an increased belief in themselves and what they can achieve. Participants enjoy contest, games, activities, as well as competing in the YoungBiz Financial Portfolio Challenge, where they team up to create and present "mock" investing portfolios to the judges.

YoungBiz Smart Start to Business
Grade 6 - Grade 8
/ This exciting course gives teenagers an in-depth look at business ownership. The programs are active, participatory and fun and aimed at every young person in the room leaving with an increased belief in themselves and what they can achieve.
Students enjoy group activities, games, case studies, and guest speakers as they develop skills in communication, negotiation, problem solving, time management, business decision making, and public speaking. Young people go home with a new title of CEO or president of their own company, a working business plan, business cards, flyers, and marketing plans – ready to generate sales from their first entrepreneurial venture.

Through various written and spoken activities, you will learn how to write and speak with greater clarity, confidence and most importantly impact! In summary, this course will strengthen your skills and fire up your confidence to move forward on your journey to being a confident presenter and an energized writer.

Reading and Writing Workshop
Grade 5 - Grade 8
/ This workshop promotes the organization, understanding, appreciation and presentation of written and visual texts in order to strengthen and improve current skills.
The workshop will be divided into two periods of self contained sessions. Session 1 of two weeks followed by Session 2 for a total of 4 weeks possible. This gives the student the option of a 2 or 4 week workshop, depending on individual needs.
This workshop will concentrate on the exploration of different types of written text and strategies to increase comprehension and skills. Those who take the 4 week workshop will continue to build these skills but students will also be introduced to and work with visual texts and oral.presentations (how to create well designed PowerPoints and improve Oral Delivery skills) as well.

Digital Imagery Editing
Grade 5 - Grade 8
/ Digital pictures and video are a wonderful part of our everyday lives. In this course you will learn how to make your pictures better and how to create slideshows and movies that contain video, pictures and even soundtracks. We will explore popular software packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Windows Movie maker and Pinnacle Studio to make those digital images really come to life and make you a digital editing maestro in just one week.
In this course we look at the exciting new ways of exploring creative technology. In many ways, these are the new literacies of the 21st century. Your understanding of these tools represents a new generation of learning and understanding the digital world around you. Most importantly we'll have a lot of fun in doing so. No experience necessary just an open mind. Learn. Play. Share. Have fun.

MS Math

Middle School Maths
Grade 5 - Grade 8
/ This course will provide extra tuition and support for students who need to solidify their understanding of whole number, decimal and fraction operations, as well as measurement and geometry skills. The common thread running through this mathematics program is that for children to apply basic arithmetic skills to real world applications they need strong basic skills and the ability to communicate ideas. This will prepare Grade 5 and 6 students as they to move to a pre-algebra environment which involves higher-level problem solving skills. Grade 7 students will solidify their understanding of decimal, fraction and algebraic operations and the vocabulary associated with algebra. They will also use algebra to solve measurement, geometry, and real world application problems. Students will also revise and extend their understanding of geometrical shapes and their properties.

MS Credit

Indonesian Studies - Credit Program
Grade 6 - Grade 8
/ This course is designed for beginner students. It is a required semester course that will be waived if a student enrolls in either of full-year Indonesian language courses. Throughout each course, students learn about the geography, culture, and customs of our host country. Basic grammar is introduced, linguistic correctness encouraged, and skills for effective communication stressed. Students who do not take this course in Middle School will enroll in this course in High School, in order to fulfill a JIS requirement.

Latin Jazz
Grade 5 - Grade 12
/ This class is a combination of high-energy jazz taught with a Latin flare. Explore many different Latin rhythms, including salsa, cha cha, merengue, samba, rumba and mambo. This class consists of a warm-up flowing into jazz isolations, strengthening work and across-the-floor movement that emphasizes style, energy and expression. Each class ends with a simple combination. This class is a great workout, and hot, hot, hot!

Stree Jazz Hip Hop
Grade 5 - Grade 12
/ Street Jazz is a dance form combining jazz, hip-hop and funk. This style of dance can be seen in the latest hip-hop, pop and R&B videos. Students are asked to have some background in jazz and hip hop along with a desire to strive for their best in class. Please do not wear street shoes to this class.

/ "If you can walk, you can dance," African Dance technique is a celebration of life and health! exercise and dance and brings mind, body and spirit together to the rhythmic beat of West African drums.
Even if you've never danced before, even if you think you have two left feet, JUN KO can show you how to develop and get in touch with your own sense of rhythm. Teaches you how to breathe and move your body, how to listen to a drumbeat and connect it to the inner rhythm you were born with. let the drums free your minds while they joyfully stretch, tone and build their bodies. Now it's your turn. Follow the spirit: It's AFRICAN DANCE time!

Soccer
Grade 6 - Grade 12
/ Soccer clinic is designed to give both male and female soccer players the opportunity to develop their overall skills. The program focuses on developing proper ball control technique, dribbling stops, starts and feints, establishing a good first touch, accurate passing and shooting techniques and positional awareness. Tactics and rules will be discussed and reviewed as players play in competitive small and large field matches. Players will also develop an appreciation of the skills and abilities that are needed at each position on the field.
Coaches will provide technical training, encouragement, immediate feedback and advice. Session 1 and 2 will be coached by an expat coach from Asian Soccer Academy. During Session 3, Mr. Jurrien, the former High School Varsity Soccer coach will join in.

Get into Form Band Week
Grade 7 - Grade 8
/ MS Summer Band Camp gives our new 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to get a head start on Advanced Band by mastering basic skills, applying music theory toward the learning of scales/warm-ups and playing of a variety of higher level music. Daily rehearsals, in a relaxed setting, will be a combination of musical fun, practice and improvement. A short demonstration of student progress will be given at the end of the week. A perfect opportunity for Advanced Band students to get back in shape before the start of the year!

Badminton

/ This course provides student's with the opportunity to develop their skills in badminton. Student's will learn rules of the game, how to serve booth in double and single games, backhand and forehand strokes, overhead clear, drop shot, drive, defends and smash. This course can accommodate students with different ability levels. Pak Rusdawi will be the instructor.
