Baby Timeline
“My First 2 Years of Life”
Developmental milestones are a set of functional skills or age-specific tasks that most children can do within a certain age range. Milestones are used by doctors and parents to help check how a child is developing. Although each milestone has an age level, the actual age when a normally developing child reaches that milestone can vary quite a bit because every child is unique!
Directions:
Create a timeline of the first two years of life that includes both common development milestones for all babies and milestones from when you were a baby. First, use the textbook andChromebooks in class to find common stages of development. In your textbook, refer to Chapter 5 and Appendix B.On the Chromebooks, use the websites listed on the back of this paper. Then talk to your parents, relatives, or family friends to research your personal milestones. Use this information to create your timeline and compare your development with the guidelines given for the development of all babies.
Specifics:
- all research for common milestones will be completed in class
- research for personal milestones and creation of timeline will be done for homework
- project should be done on a poster board or in a digital format (PowerPoint, Google Slides or Prezi)
- indicate month range for common milestones and month of personal milestones
- choose at least 1 physical (motor) milestone, 1 cognitive milestone, and 1 social/emotional milestone per year
- label all milestones with appropriate area of development (physical, cognitive, social/emotional)
- give your timeline a title
- prepare a 1 minute presentation about your timeline to present to the class – include your name, birthday, place of birth, and 2 interesting incidents from your first two years of life and/or milestone information you learned while completing the project
Poster: divide poster in half (horizontally or vertically) with timeline ranging from birth through age 2
- one side of the timeline should indicate milestones from the book – at least 12 (6 per year)
- opposite side of the timeline should indicate personal milestones – at least 6 (3 per year)
- use pictures, stickers, and/or clip art – personal pictures will be returned but you may choose to make color copies of originals
- choose a design that is creative, colorful and neat (use glue stick – no tape or liquid glue)
- project must be typed or neatly written in your handwriting in markers or colored pencils (no pen or pencil)
Digital Presentation: 1 title slide, 3 slides per year for common milestones and 2 slides per year for personal milestones
- choose a theme for the background and use transitions and animations
- use personal pictures, online pictures, and/or clip art
- email your digital presentation to me or share it on Google Drive ()
- bring this paper to class on the project due date to turn in with your poster
- NOTE: If you don’t have any personal information to include on your timeline, please find 18 general milestones (9 per year) or use milestones from another person like a younger sibling or other family member. For your presentation include your name, birthday, place of birth, and either personal facts and/or milestone information.
