Baby Project Rules and Practices

1.  You will be caring for your Baby from ______.

2.  Grading: During the school day, you must carry your child with you at all times. Points will be lost if you do not have your baby with you.

3.  During other classes you will need to have your baby on your desk or in an area the teacher has supplied, where your baby will take a “nap.” If another teacher has to come to me and tell about you distracting their class because of the baby, you will lose a possible 10 points each day.

4.  Dress, name, and personalize your baby! Make sure your NAME is on your baby project packet.

5.  Your baby must be within VIEW at ALL times. Your baby can NOT be left unattended.

6.  You are not allowed to put your baby in your backpack. This action suggests abuse or neglect. You may use the service of a babysitter if you have a time you cannot attend to your child. Babysitters may not care for more than one baby at a time. Babies may not be with babysitter during our class time (school time).

7.  You should be extremely protective of your child. If a tragic loss or damage occurs, you will be responsible for your baby, reporting it to me, and the negotiation of a penalty. Penalties will include research on child abuse. If someone else attacks your child, or any other destructive behavior occurs, find a teacher as a witness to spare you some penalty.

8.  At the end of this assignment you will submit your Baby project packet for a grade. All pages MUST be complete.

9.  If you are absent on any days and for any reason during the

time of the project the day must be made up.

10.  All teachers have been notified about this assignment. They will report any child abuse, misconduct, or distractions that occur and the final grade will be affected.

11.  Have FUN and be CREATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Parents,

I wanted to let you know of an upcoming project that your child will be involved in. It is called the “Baby Project”. The Baby Project is designed to demonstrate the responsibilities involved in managing a family which includes a baby. It is my hope that through participation in this project the students will:

1.  Gain the realization of the commitment of time and energy that it takes to have a child and the demands that a child makes on the parent.

2.  Research and calculate some of the costs of having and caring for a newborn.

Requirements & Information:

A.  The baby will need to come to class with the student everyday

B.  They will need to provide a 9-volt battery

C.  It is the student’s responsibility to take care of the baby at all times.

D. All babies will need to be turned in to me at the end of the project. Failure to turn in the baby will cause a failing grade. (This is to ensure that every baby is returned properly because these babies belong to the school)

This project is an important part of their grade. If the students do not take care of their baby (or lose/damage baby) they will receive a failing grade. All students start the project with the maximum points available, however points are taken off if they do not have the baby with them at all times during the school day or are neglectful, abusive, or harmful to the baby. Students should not leave the baby in their backpacks, classrooms, or any other place that would be damaging to a newborn. Students should choose carefully who they let hold their baby because friends not in our class may try to “abuse” the baby, which will cause points to be taken off of the grade as well.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Your support is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Taking care of a baby is a full time job. To make this as realistic as possible, you must use your imagination and your acting skills. You need to pretend that your adorable baby is an actual baby.

Babysitting

You can arrange to have a babysitter if you cannot take care of your baby for a short period of time. There are some guidelines that need to be followed:

·  The baby may not be left with babysitter for more than 3 hours at a time.

·  The babysitter form must be filled out each time.

·  You can only have a babysitter once a day.

·  The baby may not be taken care of by ANY OTHER STUDENT during the school day unless you are at an extracurricular practice, the babysitter is getting paid $.10/hour, and your babysitter is on my approval list. If another student is caught with your baby, without my approval, you will lose points.

Abuse

·  Any kind of abuse, such as throwing, hitting, leaving alone or in the locker, etc. will be an automatic 50 point deduction. This applies to reports by any teacher, administrator, or student. The baby is to be treated as if it were a real baby. Also you lose points if your friends are seen abusing the baby, so be careful who you let hold your baby.
