The Eli Young Band first started as a duo with fellow Texans, Mike Eli and James Young. A rhythm section completed the band during their college years at the University of North Texas at Denton. After gaining popularity in local clubs and bars, a recording contract with Universal South Records soon followed.“Always the Love Songs” is featured on their debut disc with the label, Jet Black & Jealous.
Born and raised in Mississippi, Randy Houser started honing his stage work at the early age of 13. Having a father who was a professional singer and musician no doubt accelerated his progress. After making the move to Nashville in 2003, he found work as a demo singer which then led to a publishing deal. He made his first big mark in Music City by co-writing Trace Adkins’ smash hit, “Honky TonkBadonkadonk.” That led to a recording contract with Universal South Records which led to two big hits of his own, “Anything Goes” and “Boots On.”
Love and Theft is a trio of three young men, all born in 1984, who met in Nashville through mutual friends. The threesome writes their own music and share lead vocal and harmony duties. They each bring something different to the table as their backgrounds and influences are wide ranging. Steven Barker Liles is from Palm Harbor, Florida and grew up listening to early Gospel and Contemporary Christian Music. Eric Gunderson grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina with the sounds of Johnny Cash, The Beatles, The Eagles and bluegrass filling his ears. Finally, Brian Bandas comes from Austin, Texas where he was reared with jazz players in his family. Signed to Carolwood Records, a sister label of Disney’s Lyric Street Records, they have released their first single, “Runaway.”
The three members in Trailer Choir know how to put the “fun” in country. Exhibit A: their first single, “Rockin’ the Beer Gut.” What started out as a cover band in Nashville, grew to adding original material and ultimately performing in front of Toby Keith who soon signed them to his label, Show Dog Records. Cited influences are one-named icons: Garth, Elvis and Oprah. Taste of Cincinnati patrons should not miss Crystal, Butter and Vinny. The latter being a rather large man known to do “The Worm” across the stages they play.
It was so much fun last year he wanted to return in 2009.Bucky Covington again hits the B-105 Stage on Sunday night at Taste of Cincinnati. The Rockingham, North Carolina native and self-taught guitar player first caught the nation’s attention with an 8th place finish in American Idol’s 2006 season. Lyric Street Records then signed him up and have since released several singles including, “Different World” and “I’ll Walk.”
Joey + Rory are a married duo who first gained fame through Country Music Television’s Can You Duet competition. A third place finish netted them a record deal with Vanguard / Sugar Hill Records. Their performances also caught the attention of executives for an internet retailer who used them in their national television advertising campaign. Away from the stage, Joey runs a restaurant with her sister-in-law and Joey is an accomplished songwriter. He’s penned hits for Blake Shelton, Clay Walker and Collin Raye. Their debut CD, The Life of a Song features the hit, “Cheater Cheater.”
Growing up in Poyen, Arkansas, Justin Moore excelled as a high school athlete. Upon graduation, he turned his attention to music and promptly moved to Nashville. Some demos of original songs made their way to Alan Jackson’s producer, Keith Stegall and that in turn led to a deal with the Valory Music label. All this led to airplay of his single, “Small Town USA” and a spot on the B-105 Free Country Music Stage.
One may remember Heidi Newfield as the female member in the very successful band, Trick Pony. Wanting to go at it alone, she embarked on a solo career in late 2006. The Heldsburg, California native, who was raised on country, blues and rock, showed no fear early on in life when she made her first attempt at stardom in Nashville at the age of 13. Now, older and wiser, she’s making a name for herself with her debut solo album featuring the hit, “Johnny and June.”
