Award Requirements

  • Tobe eligibleforthese awards,amembermustsubmitacompleted application and a completedrecordbooktothe County Extension Officebytheposteddeadline.
  • Within the lastcalendaryear,theapplicantmusthave participated inoneormoreofthe activities in atleastthree(3)ofthe followingareas:methoddemonstration/4-H presentation contests,projectsexhibits,camps,Leadership Labs,citizenship activities, publicrelations (demonstrations,speeches,posterdisplays,radio,TV,newspaper, etc...)
  • Within the lastcalendar year,applicantmusthave participated in oneormore communityservice activities.
  • Awardsarebasedon 4-H involvement,showpersonalgrowth,leadershipcharacteristics and abilities,andcommunityservice.
  • Each awardmayonlybe received oncein a4-Hmemberscareer.
  • Each applicantmustalsocomplete an interview. Interviewdates will beheldThursday August7, 2014atthecountyextension office.

SeniorAwardsRequirements(14-18yearsold asofAug.31,2013)

  • Gold Star
  • Mustbe atleast15yearsold,asofAugust31ofthe previousyear.
  • Musthavethree(3)ormoreyearsinthe4-H program,including thecurrentyear.
  • Musthave submittedanawardsprogramrecordbookin theyearthe4-Heristo be consideredforthe award.
  • Musthave completed projectsinthreedifferentprojectareas,including submission ofappropriate recordforms.
  • Duringlastthree(3)yearsin 4-Hmusthave exhibited leadership skillsbyserving as a4-H officerorcommittee chair(club,county,districtorstate),and/orasa teen leadersin anactivityorproject.

  • Mustbe enrolled asa sophomore,junior,orseniorin highschool.
  • Awardbased on ability to demonstratea commitmenttodevelopingyour personalbestandmaking apositive difference inthe community.

AwardforAdults

Adult Leader of the Year:Anyadult leader thathasnotpreviouslybeen awardedthe recognitionon the countylevel is eligible. Each 4-H clubmaynominateonemale and onefemale.Nomination applications aredue attheCountyExtensionOffice byJuly31, 2014in orderforthoseawards tobe presented atAchievement Night.

Friend of4-H:Anybusiness or individual that has contributed their time,moneyand effortstopromote4-Hprograms in the countyandhasnot previouslyreceived the recognitionon the countylevel, is eligible. Each 4-H club is responsiblefor selecting one “Friend of 4-H”and submitting theapplicationtothe CountyExtensionOfficeby July31, 2014inorder to bepresented at Hidalgo CountyAchievement Night.
