Award Name:Professional Development Grant

Award Amount:2 awards (one inSpring and one in the Fall), $250 limit per award.

Purpose: To encourage and enableprofessionals in the SLA Minnesota Chapter to participate in continuing education/professionalevents by awarding grants to be used for event registration or class fee, and any required materials or necessary travel expenses. This could also be used to allow out-state members to come to the cities for a meeting.

Eligibility:

  1. Must be a current member of the SLA Minnesota Chapter.
  2. Grant recipients mustshare knowledge gained fromthe education or experience with the MN Chapter through either a brieforal reportat a Chapter Mtg or a brief article submission in the Chapter Bulletin.
  3. An individual is not allowed to win two consecutive grant awards, and applications will not automatically transfer from one award period to the next. Applicants are free to resubmit there application in a subsequent award period should it still be viable.
  4. Grant Recipients from one calendar year are obligated to serve on the Awards Committee for the following calendar year.

Judging Criteria:

  1. Grant awards are given only to applicants meeting all eligibility criteria.
  2. If there are no qualifying applications during any particulargrant period, the award will not be distributed and monies will not be transferred to additional or future grant award periods.
  3. Grant essays will be judged based on which essay the judges feel best describes the benefitsthat will resultfrom the applicant attending the event described.

Application Process:

  1. A maximum of 2grants will be awarded each calendar year (one inSpring and one in the Fall).
  2. Grant winners must submit a list of expenses incurred and any receipts to the SLA Minnesota Chapter Treasurer for reimbursement. In cases of financial hardship, a request can be made by the grant winner for disbursement of funds prior to the event. This would be an exception and handled by the Past President on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Applications may be sent by mail or email to the Past President.
