MEDIA RELEASE

AUSTRALIAN VIGNERONS ANNOUNCESPOSITIVE FUTURE

Australian Vignerons is delighted to announce that a combination of financial restraint and continued support from its member base has led it to become financially secure for the future. This is welcome news after the concerns expressed late last year that due to uncertain times in the wine sector that the future of the national advocacy body that represents those who grow and make wine was in doubt.

“Over the last six months Australian Vignerons has welcomed a new independent skills – based board, and has been concentrating on representing its members in our core areas of concern” said Andrew Weeks, CEO of Australian Vignerons.

“After some careful restraint we are now stable, and will be building our capacity of our team, and will be hiring in the near future. We have been heavily involved not only in representing our members, but also working for the benefit of the wine sector as a whole.” Andrew added.

“This includes considerable input into the Export and Regional Wine Support Package, industry advocacy, communicating research and development priorities, and in the area of biosecurity. We have been focused wholly on doing our job for the past six months, and trying to achieve financial stability. We now need to raise awareness of what we do, and build support. We stand ready to work for the benefit of members and the betterment of the wine sector as a whole.”

Australian Vignerons is the peak advocacy body formerly known as Wine Grape Growers Australia, and reformed its Constitution and membership last year. Recent communications around the Grapevine Pinot Gris Virus indicate the involvement that Australian Vignerons has on behalf of the wine industry. The new independent board is committed to enhance value creation for its members, and working collaboratively with other wine sector bodies for the betterment of all in the wine industry value chain.
