8:30-9:00Welcome and Faculty Development in AY 2016-2017 (HCC, Digital Auditorium)

On May 11, 2016, more than 80 members of the faculty and staff joined together to discuss and explore directions for faculty development and support in the upcoming academic year. Since then, offices across campus have been working to make many of the ideas generated on this day come to life. During this brief opening session, you’ll hear about progress to date and what is yet to come.

Consistent with the start of the new academic year, these brief presentations are designed to pick up on two themes: (1) “invitations to collaboration”and (2) the “upcoming semester.” Any member of the faculty and staff who wishes to issue a call for collaboration OR who seeks an audiencewith whom toshare their excitement aboutsomething they plan on implementing in the class room this fall is welcome to submit a talk proposal. Email Jeff McClurken () and Tim O’Donnell () with questions. Boxed lunches will be served to all who register in advance.

Thinking about teaching an online class? Need help preparing to make your course writing intensive? Would you like advice on adding oral communication assignments to your classes. How about drafting an FSEM proposal or creating an Honors designated course? Have your ever thought about connecting with the Center for International Education to create an educational opportunity abroad? These short sessions hosted by a wide range of offices across campus are designed to help you start the new year with the right answers (and hopefully a few new ideas).

2:00-5:00Safe Zone Training (HCC)

Safe Zone training is designed to educate members of the University community about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. The training will help to create a network of allies who, together with members of the LGBTQ community, work to create a community of safety and full inclusion for all its members. Level 1 training will provide an overview of terms, and understanding of gender vs. sexuality and issues facing our community. Level 2 (for those who have completed Level 1) will focus on current issues and interactive group work to develop skills in working with those who may seek a safe place. Training will be offered concurrently and each session is open to the first 25 to sign up.

This program is sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
