NOTICE OF COMMISSIONING
TOWNSHIP OF NORTH GLENGARRY- ALEXANDRIA WATER TREATMENT UPGRADES
The Township of North Glengarry upgraded the Alexandria water treatment and distribution systems. This work includes the replacement of the storage stand pipe with a water tower, a new control and monitoring system referred to supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and replacing the chlorination disinfection system using chloramination. All of these upgrades will improve the reliability of water supply to the community.
Chloramination has been added to remedy the problem of low free chlorine residuals in the distribution system. It is also effective in reducing THM levels in the water. However, the presence of chloramines in water supplied to dialysis machines is known to present problems to patients if the water is not treated prior to entering the dialysis process. In addition pre-treatment to remove chlorine for dialysis purposes may not be effective in removing chloramines. It is recommended that all medical facilities adjust their patient treatment processes to account for the presence of chloramines. It is also recommended that all medical professionals warn their affected patients of this change. In addition all members of the public that use any form of dialysis should seek the opinion of a medical expert.
In addition chloramines also pose a threat to aquatic pets and water should be treated appropriately to remove the chloramines within any aquatic pets’ environment.
The chloramination treatment process will be commissioned on November 16th 2011, we urge that if you have any queries or concerns at all that you contact us prior to commissioning.

CANTON DE GLENGARRY NORD - AMÉLIORATIONS DU TRAITEMENT D'EAU D'ALEXANDRIA
Le canton de Glengarry nord a amélioré le système de traitement et distribution de l'eau d'Alexandria. Ce travail inclut le remplacement de l'ancien tuyau hydraulique vertical par une tour d'eau, un nouveau système de contrôle et de surveillance que se réfère au controle de surveillance et d'acquisition de données (SCADA) et le remplacement du système de désinfection du chlore, utilisant la chloramination. Cette amélioration augmentera la fiabilité de l'approvionnement d'eau à la communauté.
La chloramination a été ajouter pour remédier au problème du nivau de chlore dans le système de distribution. Aussi, c'est efficace afin de réduire le niveau de THM dans l'eau. Par contre, la présence de chloramine dans l'eau fourniet aux machines de dialyse est reconnue pour causer des problèmes pour les patients, si l'eau n'est pas traitée avant son utilisation pour le processus de dialyse. De plus, le pré-traitement d'enlever le chlore pour la dialyse et peut faire défaut. On recommande au professionnels médicaux, d'avertir leurs patients de ce changement. De plus les membres du publique qui utilisent la dialyse devraient consulter l'opinion d'un expert médical.
À noter que chloramine présente une menace pour les poissons domestiques et l'eau devrait être traitée convenablement afin de retirer la chloramine de leur environnement.
Le traitement de chloramination sera mis en service le 16 novembre 2011, n'hésiter pas à nous contacter quelles que soient vos questions ou inquétudes à ce sujet avant la mise en service.
