AUGUST

SUMMER ENCAMPMENT – Our Cadet Basic Encampment is scheduled to provide you a large group opportunity to train with other cadets. We often go to Grand Forks AFB North Dakota. 120 Cadets and Seniors take the “Basic Training” opportunity to prepare themselves to serve their communities by meeting the standards of the Cadet Program.

Attendance is required for cadets desiring to become Cadet Officers.

SEPTEMBER

A slow month as cadets gets back into schoolwork.

OCTOBER

NON COMMISIONED OFFICER SCHOOL – Mid level management school to enhance the cadet’s ability to teach the standards. Held at Camp Ripley.

VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION – The annual competition where unit teams compete against each other.

Purely a social event.

NOVEMBER / DECEMBER

Slow months for CAP. Good times to schedule year-end parties to enjoy each other’s company, reflecting on a year’s worth of training, activities and fellowship.

MISCELLANEOUS

LEVEL I and CADET PROTECTION training – Conducted for new Senior members at local units.

ORIENTATION FLIGHTS – Cadets may receive up to nine flights in Cessna 172’s. Check with your squadron for details.

The Director of Personnel Development schedules SQUADRON LEADERSHIP and CORPORATE LEADERSHIP courses.

Other training is scheduled where there is sufficient interest. Contact your local training officer.

The Minnesota Wing Cadet Program is very active in supporting the three missions of Civil Air Patrol: Aerospace Education, Emergency Services and the Cadet Program. Each unit is encouraged to create their own unit level activities in addition to those listed in this pamphlet.

Annually the CAP News lists schedules of nationally sponsored activities in December.

Minnesota Wing Cadet Program operates an Integrated Leadership Program to enhance the cadet’s ability to develop into dynamic youth leaders. Each training event is specifically geared for the cadet’s success and to meet the CAP standards.

JANUARY

SNODAZE - an annual skiing / tubing activity.

A purely social activity

OPEN HOUSES – Many units recognize their members with an open house during this time to honor their volunteer service.

FEBRUARY

BlackCAP – An Emergency Services College held in Red Wing where leadership is presented in a unique way. Challenges, games and events are part of the whole college.

MARCH

CADET COMPETITION - This annual event selects the teams that represent each state at Region in Color Guard or Drill Team. The teams compete in drill, academics and physical competition. If successful the team goes on to represent us at National Competition.

APRIL

WING CONFERENCE – Our annual training conference and recognition event is scheduled around the third weekend of April. We will be holding this at Breezy Point for 2001 and 2002

JUNE

MINNESOTA LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

– An encampment primer for basic cadets and cadet staff. Learn about the CAP missions in a training activity at Camp Ripley

JULY

SOLO ENCAMPMENT – 20 selected cadets are trained to solo a corporate Cessna 172 at Mankato.

SAR EVALUATION – This search and rescue operation is evaluated by the United States Air Force. The evaluation determines where we need to improve so we can best serve our communities.

MILITARY EXPO – This recruiting opportunity at the Air Force Reserve Base is held in a military showcase.

OSHKOSH AIRSHOW – Attending the EAA Convention that is usually a unit sponsored event. Cost varies depending on size of group.
