Dear Colleague

Attachment Opportunity to support the moderation of Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment

Opportunities exist for experienced Year 2 teachers, headteachers and deputy headteachers to work with the Education Improvement Service in carrying out its statutory requirement to moderate Key Stage 1 teacher assessments in June 2017. These attachments offer continued professional development for experienced Y2 teachers or senior managers to develop a wider perspective of assessment in Derbyshire schools.

Dates:

The attachments are for approximately 8 days, with moderation visits to schools taking place between 5 June and 23 June 2017.

Responsible to:

Julie Barton, Senior Adviser for School Improvement.

Description:

The work will involve:

·  Attending moderator training on 28 March 2017 – 0915-1600 hrs – The Derbyshire Hotel.

·  Successful completion of the DfE assessment for moderators.

·  Holding a ‘Meet the Moderator’ event for schools which you will host at your school between 22and 26 May 2017.

·  Arranging moderation meetings and carrying out half-day visits to schools to support and quality assure schools’ Key Stage 1 teacher assessment judgements (approximately 8 school visits).

·  Providing feedback to senior managers.

·  Contributing to the Local Authority Annual Evaluation Report.

Criteria for selection:

·  Recent and relevant experience of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1 (core subjects).

·  Experience of organising and leading moderation and agreement meetings.

·  Working knowledge of good teacher assessment practice.

·  Experience of administering/marking of Key Stage 1 tests.

Application:

You are invited to submit an expression of interest by letter (no more than 200 words) outlining how your experience matches the criteria for selection for this attachment and the qualities you feel will be essential for a moderator to work effectively in his or her role with KS1 practitioners.

All letters must be accompanied by a letter of support from the school’s headteacher and chair of governors.

Applicants must be able to attend the training day and undertake moderation visits within the prescribed period.

Please send letters via email or post to Karen Shepherd at or John Hadfield House, Dale Road, Matlock DE4 3RD by 6 January 2017.

Colleagues may be invited to come to John Hadfield House to discuss their application on Wednesday 25 January 2017.
