Ethernet Qualification Tool Web Services for Direct Consumption FAQ

Who do I contact to begin the process of connecting to the AT&T qualification tool?

Customers should contact their AT&T representativesfor more information on how to obtain access to the Ethernet Qualification Tool (EQT).

What is involved in connecting to the AT&T qualification tool?

First, we ask that you complete a questionnaire and API License Agreement(API LA). After signing the API LA, if you are already connected tothe AT&T Common Services Interface (CSI)you should have access to the EQT within 1-2 weeks. If you are not connected to CSI, access to theEQT may take 3-4 weeks. Our team will provide you with an overview of the steps needed to onboard to CSI successfully and will work with you through the entire onboarding process.

Which customers can benefit from direct consumption of the EQT API?

Large customers, particularly Wholesale customers, that need to qualify large numbers of end-user locations and already have an AT&T Switched Ethernet ServiceSM(ASE), AT&T Dedicated Ethernet (ADE), or OPT-E-WAN® service contract in place will benefit most from the EQT.

How can I check for Ethernet service availability?

There are two web services required to check for Ethernet service availability:

  • Process Location Attribute (PLA) - Performs In Region Street Address Guide (SAG) Validation & 50 State USPS Address Validation
  • Inquire Transport Product Availability (ITPA) - Checks for Ethernet Service with Available Speeds and Classes of Service over Fiber and Copper Networks, as well as OPT-E-WAN availability. E-WAN availability.

STEP / DESCRIPTION
1 / Run ‘Process Location Attribute’ (PLA) web service
2 / Select a single address if multiple address matches are returned
3 / Run ‘Inquire Transport Product Availability’ (ITPA) web service, using the address selected above
4 / Use the ‘Multi Product Availability Request’ functionality for the product(s) you wish to inquire about.
5 / In the Response, look at the ‘Availability Flag’ for the product(s) you are interested in, to determine if they are available at that location. (True or False)
6 / Then look in the ‘Service Groups’ section for Ethernet (ASE or ADE) or the ‘Bandwidth Data’ section for OPT-E-WAN service, for the speeds you want. The ‘Speed Availability’ field shows Currently Available (CA) or Build To Order (BO)
7 / Use the ‘Building Tier’ and ‘ASE Color Code’ to determine Ethernet pricing based on your contracted rates. OPT-E-WAN pricing can be calculated by the requested speed, based on your contracted rates.

Which Ethernet products can I check for?

  • AT&T Dedicated Ethernet (ADE)
  • AT&T Switched Ethernet, which includes:

AT&T Switched Ethernet ServiceSM- Broadband Port Connection (ALS)

AT&T Switched Ethernet ServiceSM – over Fiber (AFBR)

AT&T Switched Ethernet ServiceSM – over Copper (AEoCU)

  • AT&T OPT-E-WAN® Service (OPT-E-WAN)

Can I use an alternative source to validate the service address, instead of using the ProcessLocationAttribute (PLA) web service?

AT&T does not recommend using an alternative source to validate the service address. When using the PLA web service, two independent validations occur: 1) 50 State USPS validation and 2) AT&T In-Region, In Franchise Street Address Guide (SAG) validation.

If you do not have a valid SAG address, you may not receive a complete ASE Broadband Port availability response (i.e. you may not receive all qualified speeds).

How do I determine availability?

There are three possible scenarios:

Service is Available / Availability Flag = True / Speed Availability = CA
Build To Order Speeds Available / Availability Flag = True / Speed Availability = BO
No Service / Availability Flag = False / N/A

How do I know which speeds are available?

The ITPA web service returns all services available at a specific location. For Ethernet service (ASE or ADE), the available speeds and characteristics are returned in the “service groups.” For OPT-E-WAN, the available speeds and characteristics are returned in the “bandwidth data” section.

Can I get a quote?

The EQT web services do not provide the functionality to create a quote.

However, since the Building Tier and ASE Color code (green/yellow/red) are returned in the ITPA web service response, you can calculate an Ethernet quote using that information along with your current contracted rates. To calculate OPT-E-WAN pricing, use the requested speed, along with your current contracted rates.

Does the EQT API qualify for all US addresses?

The PLA API will qualify all 50 states for USPS Postal address. However, SAG validation is only applicable for the local 21-state AT&T Regions.

If the address entered is outside of the local AT&T 21-state in-franchise footprint (i.e., the legacy RBOC footprint), the PLA API, SAG validation response will indicate ‘Address is not valid in-region address’.

What do the Building Tiers mean?

Building Tier / AT&T Definition
Tiers 1 & 2 / Building address served by AT&T fiber
Tier 3 / Building that is neither Tier 1 or Tier 2, but is within 500 feet of an AT&T Telco fiber route
Tier 4 / Building that is neither Tier 1 or Tier 2, and is beyond 500 feet of an AT&T Telco fiber route

What does the ASE Color Code mean?

The ASE color code indicates a customer's Wire Center status (i.e. Green/Yellow/Red). The status indicates the distance from available service to Wire Center, and whether a regenerator may be necessary between the customer location and the AT&T CO. The ASE Color must be Green or Yellow to provide service. Green would indicate that no regenerator is necessary and Yellow would indicate that regenerators may be necessary.

Does the EQT API qualify for DSL?

The EQT API does not currently qualify locations for DSL service.

In the API, we are qualifying for ASE Broadband Port (a/k/a ALS = ASE over Light Speed), which is part of AT&T Switched Ethernet Service.

AT&T also sells DSL as an IP service and that is sometimes called Broadband, but it is not an Ethernet service. This would be the “traditional” DSL service that most consumers are familiar with and should not be confused with AT&T Switched Ethernet Service (ASE).

Does the EQT API return NPA/NXX Info?

Yes.
