Application Procedures

Thank you for your interest in Eastern Washington University’s MSAT degree program. This document outlines all prerequisite course work, experience and documentation needed to make application to the MSAT program. The steps outlined help ensure that an applicant has completed the requirements needed to seekadmission to the program. However, submission of the application materials does not guaranteethe applicant will be offered admission in the MSAT program.

Step 1: EWU Graduate School Application

1. / Begin EWU Graduate School application by selectingAthletic Training (MSAT).
2. / Complete the EWU Graduate School application and pay $75.00
3. / Submit official transcripts
4. / The MSAT program does not require GRE or GMAT test scores

Step 2: MS in AT Program Application

5. / Applicants should write a short essay that describes how they became interested in becoming a certified athletic trainer and what makes them passionate about the field of athletic training. The applicant’s response should be no longer than 1000 words.
6. / Submit a Professional Resume, including education and relevant experience
7. / Submit three Eastern Washington University MSAT Recommendation forms
  1. First Form: Must be completed by the ATC who supervised at least part of your observation hours
  2. Second Form: Must be from a previous instructor or professor who can attest to your academic performance.
  3. Third Form: Must be completed by a person who can attest to your character. This person cannot be related to the applicant.

8. / Applicants are required to provide proof of ECC(Emergency Cardiac Care) certification.The applicant must provide their certificate of completion from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association or an equivalent. ECC training must include all of the following:
  • Adult CPR
  • Pediatric CPR
  • Second Rescuer CPR
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Airway obstruction
  • Barrier devices (e.g., pocket mask, bag-valve mask)

9. / Complete 100 hours of observation with a certified athletic trainer (ATC and/or LAT) and submit the “Verification Form” provided on the EWU Athletic Training Program’s web page. (Note: Preference will be given to applicants that provide proof of AT observations occurring at various healthcare sites and with different athletic trainers.)
10. / Applicants are required to review the Technical Standards provided on the EWU Athletic Training Program’s web page and determine one of the following:
  1. The applicant can meet the standards of admission as outlined
  2. The applicant can meet each of these standards with certain accommodations as outlined by the Office of Disability Support Services at EWU.
After review, applicants must include a signed copy of the Technical Standards with a signature in the appropriate signature field. This will be submitted with their application packet.
11. / Applicants must complete and include in the application packet, a copy of the Prerequisite Course Self Audit provided on the EWU Athletic Training Program’s web page.
12. / All of the program specific requirements need to be compiled into a single submission packet. Please do not submit individual components of the packet. Step 3: Review of Materials

13. / The MSAT program faculty and staff will begin the review of applications on February 2nd. Applicants will be informed of the program’s enrollment decision no later than the first week of April.
14. / The MSAT program faculty will notify those selected for admission utilizing the email address provided on the application

Step 4: Acceptance/Post Acceptance Instructions

15. / Those applicants selected for admission will have one week to accept or reject the offer of admission. Applicants will formally accept or reject the offer of enrollment by completing and returning the acceptance letter electronically.
16. / Students accepting enrollment will receive an email detailing programmatic requirements (e.g. physical exam, official immunization records, criminal background check, drug test) that must be provided the first day of class.

Failure to follow these steps may result in your application and/or acceptance status being denied.

Admission Deadline: The final deadline for regular admission is February 1st. Application materials must be received in a completed packet via email to cmastel @ewu.edu or postmarked by February 1stto Colleen Mastel, 200 Physical Education Classroom Building, Eastern Washington University, Cheney WA 99004.

Cohort Start Date: Each new cohort begins the MSAT program during the first summer session (typically beginning mid-June). New student orientation will be held the first class day of the summer term.
