ATASS TECHNICAL SUBCOMMITTEE

Report to APASC

April 2010

Members: Raul Archer, ASU Open Systems; Bryant Castaneda, AZTrasfer;

Melinda Gebel, ASSIST; Gary Gradowski, ASU Operations; Ann Huber, ATASS; Rebecca McKay, AZTransfer; Dan Moore, ASSIST; and Jim Salverson, ASU Open Systems

Below is a highlight of the milestones completed since the last APASC meeting:

·  We have successfully developed, tested and deployed the ASSIST student course import interface into U.Select for Pima and Central Arizona College. We have signed agreements to move ahead with the interface from NPC, Cochise, AWC, Eastern, Maricopa, Coconino and Yavapai.

·  Completed the database upgrade to Sybase 15 for ASSIST and AZTransfer.

·  Continued education for Shibboleth as a possible solution for sharing institutional data between schools. This is the same technology that Microsoft uses for giving away free development software to educational institutions. The Shibboleth method would still have Authentication happen at the institutional level, but Authorization can happen at a federated level.

·  A new version of ACETS has been installed on March 2010. Release notes can be found here: http://www.aztransfer.com/notes/ACETSReleaseNotes

·  A new version of ACRES has been installed on April 2010. Release notes can be found here: http://www.aztransfer.com/ACRESReleaseNotes

·  Continued work with ASU Systems to get a development environment Virtual Machine to begin testing the option of hosting the Web Server and Web Application Server software on that hardware, in an effort to save money in service agreements.

·  Met with Arizona Department of Education staff (John Balentine, Maxine Daly, Kay Schreiber) and two high school student councilors to review the AZCIS online software used to meet the requirements ECAPs. Also, demo'd the USelect E-Advising tool used at the college level and explored ideas for expansion and collaboration between the systems. Kay agreed to put a link to U.Select with the AZCIS system.

·  Worked on a new year based navigation for the CEG, one of the E-Advising tools.

·  Presented U.Select at the one day drive-in conference for University and College advisors of Arizona. Described plans for system upgrades and listened to ideas for enhancements.
