2.MINUTES OF LAST MEETING
The Minutes of the meeting held on Friday 16th December 2016 were agreed as a true and correct record.
- Matters Arising
- Aspace published a new studio providers network, which was circulated with report papers.
- Charles Freeman has approached Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with a view to the next CNS meeting being held at Boathouse 4 on the 30th June, visits to Cellblocks, Boathouse 4 and Hotwalls can then be arranged.
- Prosper - Details of the Creative United Prosper launch were circulated, this will take place on the 11th April.
- Meeting to discuss neuro-divergent creative sector takes place in May.
- Small business competitive bid - Charles Freeman reported that discussions had been held with 'get set to growth' about integration of the creative industries business support within the small business competitive bid being prepared by University of Portsmouth, the outcome of these discussions will be known in April.
3.UPDATE REPORT
The update report was noted.
4.VENTURE FEST
Venture Fest was held in February inWinchester Guildhall.
Previous events around the country were funded by Innovate UK, this was the first self-funding event in the series.Funding was attracted from the Universities and Private Business.
829 people registered; 569 signed up, the aim of the event was to bring together Creatives and people from the tech sector to drive innovation.
Feedback was extremely positive; event for 2018 has already been booked.
5.CREATIVE INDUSTRIES PROSPECTUS
Ed Gould of Carswell Gould has been commissioned to design the creative manifesto;the current draft gives the impression of look and feel.
Actions:
-Comments are requested by the 31st March. The report will include quotes from industry representatives that support the four pillars of the manifesto.
- contributions Creatives make to Hampshire Economy
- entrepreneurship
- skills and progression
- Making Hampshire a great place to do creative business will be included within report
Action:
The network members requested to signpost appropriate industry leaders who can be approached to provide a quote.
6.MUSEUM HACK
Lucy Marder reported that the museum hack would take place at Solent University on the 16th June.
Six museums will be identified and provide challenges relating to audience development, interpretation, and user experience.
Spaces will be available for 40 Creatives in digital expertise; progress will be reported at next meeting.
7.MAYFLOWER 400
Peter O'Sullivan reported on plans to utilise digital technology and images in Mayflower 400 celebrations in 2020.
Peter also outlined aspiration to develop an apprenticeship programme, which would offer 60 apprenticeships to young people seeking employment in the digital sphereand will be linked to the Mayflower 400 project.
Action:
Peter will meet with Artswork and local colleges to discuss how this could be delivered.
8.RESPONSE TO INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY
Post response to the industrial strategy was noted, this will be integrated with Hampshire of Commerce response, it was also proposed that a direct response should be made to industrial strategy by Creative Network South, comments to Charles Freeman by the 31st March.
9.WORKBASED LEARNING
Jane Bryant reported on the progress in delivering of the workbased learning project.
An artistic enrichment programme has been launched, colleges have been invited to nominate young people to participate in this programme.
Jane Bryant also suggested that inspirational speakers could work with the young people, and requested nominations.
The next employer forum will take place on the 6th June, speakers will include a representative from the LEP future skills group, young people, and Charles Freeman who will give a presentation on the creative manifesto.
10.CREATIVE EXPO
John Thompson highlighted plans for the development of Creative Expo, which will be hosted by South Downs College. The Expo will be launched on the 21st September.
Creative Network South members will be invited, to the launch 21stSeptember. The event itself will take place on the 21st March 2018.
11.CREATIVE LAB
Laura Doye outlined the creative Lab programme run by New Theatre Royal to support Portsmouth artists to develop their business, this includes diversification, for example, Creative Lab has used artists to support the launch of cars in partnership with Snows BMW.
It was noted that the Creative Lab works with a number of neuro-divergent artists, supporting them so that their work becomes self-sustaining.
A key area of interest within the creative lab is fusion of technology with artists in practice.
12.ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Stewart Dunn reported that he decided to stand down as Chief Executive of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce on the 31st March. Stewart has however agreed to chair the May meeting of the Creative Network South before handing over to his successor. Network members thanked Stewart for his leadership.

The next Creative Network South Meeting will be held on Friday 26th May 2017 at 9.30am at Hampshire Chamber of Commerce ‘Southampton Office’ at the Sir James Mathews Building, Southampton Solent University.
