Associate Staff Hiring Checklist

1)Area Director will meet weekly for 1 to 1 1/2 hours with the Associate Staff for personal check in and training.

2)Area Director will visit Associates ministry at least 2 times during the school year.

3)Associate will have at least one year of Team Leading Experience prior to hire.

4)Before hiring the Associate, a Supervisor is in place that’s qualified/appropriate to train them in Leadership I and II.

5)Fundraising is an important part of the process that prepares the Associate for the future by helping them see the importance of raising up a support team/base and nurturing those people on their team. It should include:

a)Area Director, Territory Director and Regional Director set fundraising goal.

b)Associate Staff is responsible for up to 50% of overall Staff budget (typical Associate budget is $50,000)

c)Associate Staff utilizes Donor Development Coaching to reach fundraising goal in a timely way.

d)100% of set fundraising goal must be in place before candidate comes on staff.

e)Fundraising is a partnership with staff/community (split responsibility of the budget).

6)A functioning Committee exists that is responsible for caring for the associate and healthy fundraising.

7)The Associate training period is normally a 2 year training period that may be extended for a third year depending on the situation. At the start of their final year, the Associate in conjunction with the Regional Director, Territory Director and the Area Leadership will begin determining the best course of action as it pertains to the placement of the Associate staff. It is recommended that the Associate and the Area discuss at the beginning of year one the reality of them staying in the area long-term or if this is strictly a training period that is preparing them to eventually move to another area while they build a healthy club ministry that can be handed off to volunteers when they leave.

8)Associate Staff and the Area they will be placed understand that a significant portion of their time will be devoted to training which includes monthly Regional Training times (7-9 overnighters during school year), graduate level classwork and assignments, National training times, as well as all-staff Regional meetings. These meetings and assignments are a critical part of their training experience.

9)It is a goal of the program that the Associate Staff would be able to build a healthy club ministry that will continue to grow and thrive whether or not the Associate stays in the area.

10)If there is any deviation from this document it should come after there has been discussion with the parties listed below as well as the person responsible for the training of the Associate.
