Analyst, Financial Services: Cards & Payments

We currently have an excellent opportunity for an industry analystwithin Datamonitor’s Financial Services division. This exciting role, based in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, involves specialising in Cards and Payments, a dynamic and challenging sector which continues to develop and innovate at an increasing rate due to new technologies and growth around the Asia Pacific region.

THE ROLE

  • We are seeking a candidate interested in producing and taking ownership of objective and high quality commercial analysis on the cards and payments sector,building a best in class proposition for our extensive client base.
  • The role offers the chance to support client development and relationship building, alongside representing the company at industry conferences, presenting to existing and prospective clients and as an industry insider to the media.
  • You will be interested in strengthening your credibility through hard hitting findings and analysis backed by factual evidence and will gain recognition as an industry expert with senior executives across the Cards and Payments industry, both domestically and abroad.
  • This role will offer you significant responsibility and opportunities to develop the cards team product portfolio, and progress to managing and executing projects from conception to completion.

As tomorrow’s expert in the industry, you will be responsible for producing high integrity, high quality market analysis. You will be required to maintain and provide a timely response to market issues and offer up to date opinions to our clients, helping them to stay at the forefront of their market You will be extracting, interpreting and integrating complex datasets into analysis to provide clients with an appropriate future context for decision making.In addition to working heavily with data, you will also produce well thought out and structured pieces of qualitative research, and thought provoking analysis. The role requires national and international travel and comes with an attractive package.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Synthesis of primary and secondary research:Develop a structured and logical approach to data collection, including the identification of new data sources. Design, conduct and evaluate both primary and secondary research into the market, across various stakeholder groups in order to collect quality data.

Understanding of market dynamics: Analyse market conditions to develop an understanding of industry dynamics. Identify the critical success factors within the market and forecast future trends.

Production of analysis pieces: Produce logical, structured, well thought-out and well written analysis, which enables robust conclusions to be drawn. Use an appropriate combination of text, graphics, flowcharts and schematics to communicate findings in a clear and concise manner to a diverse audience.

Produce analysis pieces to time: Prioritise workload and manage time effectively to produce quality pieces of writing and analysis to strict publishing deadlinesand help with projects by other team members when required.

Product development: Assist Team Lead in developing the Cards and Payments portfolio proposition, from identifying improvements in current offerings to suggesting new product ideas.

Client management:Support the sales team with client visits and promoting the product. Represent the company at external conferences and in the media. Field clients’ and journalists’ queries on reports you have authored.

THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of a degree with a 75% average/distinction or equivalent. An MA or PhD is an advantage, but not essential;
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will have commercial experience in analysis or consulting
  • An interest in and willingness to specialise in Cards and Payments - industry experience is preferable, but not essential
  • Excellent written English and strong communication skills are essential
  • Strong numerical ability
  • The ability to interpret and integrate data and information to develop a clear, logical and conclusive story
  • The ability to think strategically and laterally to identify patterns and trends in market data, and be willing to stand by your findings
  • The ability to identify critical success factors within a market, forecast the direction of the market and provide new and unique insights;
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • The ability to manage own time and workload effectively
