GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

This position is primarily responsible for assisting with student instruction and behavioral supports in the Minnick Schools private special education day school.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or other related human services discipline preferred
  • High School diploma with minimum of one-year experience in working with students who receive special education services, mental health and/or other direct services.
  • Demonstrates skills and abilities in working with oppositional, and aggressive youth
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability in behavior management techniques, behavior modification, and principles of child/adolescent development
  • Demonstrates good written and verbal skills and ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary educational and treatment team
  • Must be physically able to manage students according to the Safety Care guidelines
  • Thoroughknowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and administration
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance
  • Satisfactory Driving Record in accordance with Driver Requirements policy
  • Ability to acquire First Aid, CPR and Safety CareCertification
  • Good oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to organize work effectively
  • Ability to maintain records and required paperwork according to licensing and agency requirements on a timely basis
  • Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to observe health and safety regulations
  • Ability to promote a positive and supportive classroom environment
  • Ability to absorb, analyze organize and project information and ideas

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions: May be required to perform any of the following duties

  • Provide behavioral and educational instructions to students in accordance with the Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s) and in accordance with the daily schedule
  • Assists with managing classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time
  • Provides assistance in maintaining student attendance, assists with grading of assignments, and school lunches as requested or assigned
  • Participates in the development of behavioral intervention plans and goals for students in program staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled
  • Implements behavioral intervention plans in accordance with program procedures and applicable licensing and accreditation standards
  • Assists with the physical management of students in accordance with Safety Care guidelines
  • Maintains student records and assigned documentation in a timely and appropriate
  • Implements lesson plans in accordance with IEP requirements as assigned by the teacher
  • Collects student data and submits to the appropriate parties
  • Assists in creating a supportive learning environment for all students that encourages social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation
  • Participates in ongoing student evaluations
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
  • Models professional and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions
  • Maintains professional boundaries in all interactions during and after school hours in accordance with school policies and protocols
  • Serves as mandated reporter to CPS
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Provides supervision of students when the teacher is not present, and assists in supervision when the teacher is present.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and complies with Minnick Schools and Agency policies and procedures
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with students
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development that results in the enhancement of student learning
  • Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with peers, school personnel, and the community to promote and support student learning
  • Accompanies students on field trips and in other activities to provide instruction, monitor behavior, and provide appropriate behavioral interventions as needed and required
  • Attends all Minnick meetings as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
