Job Title: / Digital Marketing Intern
Salary: / £7.83 per hour (national adult living wage)
Length of contract: / 6 months fixed term (October 2018 – March 2019)
Hours of work: / Full Time (35 hours per week excluding lunch breaks). Includes weekend and statutory bank holiday working by rotation.
Annual Leave: / 25 days plus statutory bank holidays.
Place of work: / Royal Cornwall Museum or any other location associated with the museum on request.

Job Profile: / The postholder will be required to undertake a wide variety of tasks
associated with digital marketing furthering the objectives of the
museum to be relevant, authentic, engaging and inspiring.

Key Tasks:

  • Assist the Marketing and Digital Lead to deliver marketing and PR plans for the wide range of activity across the RIC including exhibitions, events, and projects
  • Assist the Documentation and Digitisation Officer to create digital resources which support a programme which showcases Cornwall’s history and highlights the diversity of communities today.
  • Assist with the development of copy and other content for all external and internal print and digital communication including adverts, news releases to local, regional and national channels, newsletters and website, signs; and assist with distribution.
  • Assist the Marketing and Digital Lead in the coordination the creation of digital video reviews and on-line introductions to special exhibitions.
  • Assist with digital engagement through the generation of regular social media communication to promote the activities across the RIC.
  • Assist with the promotion and delivery of public programmes including an annual event programme in particular thedigital communication of events through live streaming and live blogging.
  • Assist with the coordination of volunteers who are working within marketing, communications and events.
  • Take an active role in networks and collaboration with the consortia of museums within the NPO programme, including the Professional Peer Support Network (PPSN), a collaboration between Cultivator and Plymouth University which brings together museum professionals and digital specialists with the aim of bringing about digital transformation in Cornish museums.
  • Support the Community Engagement Officer in community-based initiatives, such as social media takeover events and community web pages, forging links with community partners’ networks.

General areas of the role

  • Contribute to the smooth running of visitor services by standing in for front line and operational staff (Visitor Service Assistants, Operations Technician, Volunteers) opening and closing the museum, answering incoming calls, conducting gallery checks when required, being available for out of hours events (private views, launches etc), and attending the annual Members Day / Annual General Meeting.
  • Contribute to the ethos of the RIC as an inclusive organisation, embracing the role and contribution of volunteers, and providing any necessary support to staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • Act as a strong advocate for the RIC, developing strong networks and partnerships with peers within other organisations, and attending meetings.
  • Keep abreast of current practices and any new developments which are relevant to the post holders roles and responsibilities and undertake appropriate training when required.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the RIC’s Equal Opportunities Policy and Diversity Plan and with due regard to their own Health and Safety and that of their colleagues.
  • In the event of a serious incident at the museum (fire, flood) the post holder may be called on to support the emergency team.
  • Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.
