LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chief Radiographer Cath Lab at NMCH will be required to:
  • Assist in providing 24 hour radiographic services.
  • Meet strict deadlines, work under pressure and to work long and irregular hours if there is a need.
  • Provide,coordinate and supervise high quality radiographic service.
  • To undertake a wide range of Cath Lab and Interventionalprocedures in children effectively and efficiently.
  • Work with the Radiology HOD to set standards and protocols, functioning in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and NMCH values requirements.
  • Ensure the safe use and maintenance of highly specialised imaging equipment and to adhere to all local imaging safety procedures and to report problems to senior members of staff and on- site engineering support.
  • Maintain clinical stock and supplies in the department.
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with Radiation Control Board, Hazardous Substance Act, HPCSA and all other relevant legislations.
  • Ensure compliance with National Core Standards as stipulated by the department.
  • Have knowledge and be able to implement all labour laws and the ability to communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Ensure good communication and team work in the Radiology department.
  • Manage junior staff, workforce reviews and perform PMDS at relevant times.
  • Be committed to continuing personal professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
  • National Diploma Diagnostic radiography or equivalent qualification, registration with HPCSA as a diagnostic radiographer.
  • Minimum of 5 years appropriate experience in the Diagnostic Radiography profession after registration with HPCSA. In addition must have a minimum of 2years’ experience as a full time radiographer in a pediatric radiology Cath Lab or diagnostic interventional department.
