- Students are expected to be prepared for class. This includes completing assignments before entering the room and bringing textbook, pen and journal. Bibles will be stored in the classroom but students may take their own home to complete assignments.
- Assignments will be given frequently, but not necessarily every day. Points are included for format (proper heading, using pen, neatness) and for being submitted on time. All work must be legible and thoughtfully completed. Late work will be penalized.
- Assessments(tests)happenperiodically, usually at the end of a chapter or unit. Students who are absent the day of a written test or quiz are expected to take it the day theyreturn unless the absence has been more than three days. Use of the journal is often allowed during an assessment but only for a short period of time.
- Participationis an important part of class and each student is expected to be actively engaged in classroom activities, discussions and liturgies. Respect for otherstudents and theircontribution is expected as well. Students who come late to class, wear improper uniform, pass notes, work on assignments for other classes, disrupt or are inattentive can expect aloss of points.
- Each student is expected to complete service hours each trimester. Although it is suggested that 10-12 hours be completed, the decision will rest with each family. Early each trimester, students will submit a “commitment form” which outlines their service plans. Up to half the total hours for a trimester may include hours completed over the summer or previous trimesters of the current school year.
- Each student is expected to be respectful during prayertime. Participation is encouraged. Every trimester, each student will prepare and lead the class in a reflection based on a given theme.
- A pocket folder is provided for each student to be used as a journal. Students will record reflections as well as class notes. The journal will be scanned for completion for grading purposes, but personal reflections will not be graded. Students are asked to keep their journal cover “doodle-free”.
- The general junior highabsent work policy applies in Religion class (student has one day for every day absent to make up work). If a student is absent for religionclass but is present at school for other periods, it is expected that s/he turn in that day’sassignment and could be held responsible for anything assigned that day.
- Electronic grades will be updated at least every week. A hard-copy grade book is maintained so in-person check-ins regarding missing work is also an option for students. Assignments will be posted on Skyward. Long-term assignments (prayer outline, projects) will be posted on both Skyward and Edlio.
- The overall grade is weighted this way: Prayer/Participation = 30%
Assignments & Journal = 30% Service = 20% Assessments = 20%
