Meet the New Section Leaders
Mary Dominick, Chair.
Mary, an ASQ CQA, has been a member of the Michiana section since 1993 when she joined Nyloncraft, Inc. as a Quality Engineer. As chair of the section, she wantsto continue to provide opportunities wheremembers canbecome active in the sectionandevents where theycan network and learn more about the many facets of quality. She would like to encourage and welcome non-member guests to participate in theprograms so they too can discover how quality can benefit them.
Karthik Subbiah, Chair-Elect.
Karthik hasa Ph.D. in engineering from TennesseeTechnologicalUniversity and 10 years of industrial experience in the process engineering/re-engineering area, strategy-making processes, strategicplanning and execution, and change management. Karthik has multiple certifications in quality systems, problem-solving, and lean systems.
Dave Rohrer, Treasurer.
Dave had just landed his first job in Quality and needed to learn as much about it as fast as he could. In 1997 he joined ASQ and in June 2000 he took the CQE exam to see how much he had learned. He has found that having “ASQ Certified CQE” on his resume opened many doors of opportunity (including his current position) that may not have been open before. After recertifying in 2003, he decided he wanted to help the organization that helped him, so he contacted Gary Reese, Secretary of the Section at the time, and accepted the position of Programs and Arrangements Chair. Shortly thereafter he was elected Section Secretary and is now Section Treasurer. Since certifying for CQE he has also become certified as a CQA and is now studying to take the SSGB exam in December.
Barb Dull, Secretary.
Barb has been a member of ASQ since December 1988. She began as a member in the Savanna, Georgia chapter, and thenCharleston, South Carolina. Before moving back to the Michiana area, Barb served on the Programs committee in Columbia, South Carolina. Barb has servedon the Arrangement committee and as Secretarysix years ago in the Michiana section.

Opportunities to Get Involved
If you find a few spare moments in your day to get involved in your local ASQ section there are many opportunities and good reasons to get involved. Here are some ideas:
- Chair a committee:
- Newsletter: design and produce quarterly hardcopy newsletter. Articles will be provided.
- Publicity: help get the word out about section events.
- Placement Liaison: help connect job opportunities with job seekers.
- Participate on a committee:
- Membership, Programs and Arrangements, Education, Roundtable... All these committees need assistance with implementing great ideas.
- Regional Science Fair Judging at the University of Notre Dame:
- Each spring, schools select elementary through high school age young people to participate in the regional science fair. Section 1005 hands out awards to encourage promising young people to pursue their interests. Evaluating and selecting the award winners is great fun and only a one day commitment.
- Exploratory committee to develop and prepare a presentation for the Science Alive exhibit at the St. Joseph County Library in South Bend. The goal would be to develop an interactive exhibit for elementary age kids to learn about a quality tool and concept. If you have an interest in this, let Mary know ASAP.
- Help determine the future direction of the Section by pursuing an elected position as chair, chair-elect, secretary, or treasurer.
- Beyond the local level, ASQ also has many opportunities for participation at a national level.
Any and all of these opportunities are volunteer positions; the reward is working with a wide variety of positive people who want to make a contribution to the ASQ organization and want to promote learning opportunities for everyone to further the advancement of quality around us. If your time allows, you’ll really enjoy the opportunities. Let the Section Member Leadership Committee know of your interests. Contact information is located on the first page.
JobOpportunities
The Section Leadership frequently receives calls from companies seeking candidates for local quality positions. As we receive job opportunity announcements directly from ahiring company (not recruiting agents) we will post them on our ASQ Section 1005 website. Right now there are a number of jobs posted on the website. Please check the website periodically for new postings. The section web site address is:
If you are a member between jobs, let the section leadership know so they can make sure you are informed of any new opportunities as soon as they develop.
