Pledge of Allegiance

Roll Call

Absent: Meagan Wheeler

Call to the Audience:

Club Sports: Mike Prizyzdal

-  We want to have accountability in tracking involvement for all of our sports clubs. We did get support from senate to support idea of moving forward with the tier system. We had our clubs buy into the system and it has come to my attention there was a misunderstanding with the bylaws. YOu cannot technically restrict the amount people can get restricted for club sports. We want this tier system to be successful and we couldn't do it without you. We want to make sure the clubs are requesting the correct amount through ASANA. IF they bring a packet to you all, if it doesn't have a seal from the exec board for sports clubs that means we have not looked at the packet yet and made sure they meet expectations to receive funding they deserve. Hopefully this can save you all some time, Ms Olas will have an easier time with this process. Not having to come to me, it's the battle of going to mom who says no and dad who says yes. This will help to know the clubs who request funding are in good standing. We are asking for your approval for sport clubs to use this method/

Beghtol: Did you get feedback from sport clubs on how it worked>

Mike: The results speak for themselves. A few didn't want to involve themselves as much as necessary and racked up strikes. The lack of involvement will hit them hard and each tier system needs a certain amount to qualify the next tier. To not be involved or do whatever they feel like doing is different from the clubs who are out there working hard

Kevin: We bought into that clubs choose whatever level they want to be in, so the varsity will be a higher level than recreational. We are allowing clus who want to be recreational have less rules. Varsity can get more because sports club will give them extra money too. Higher level clubs will have more criteria as lesser has less criteria.

Mike: We won’t place anyone in a tier unless they meet the strikes necessary.

We were new last year and it helps to know what we need to do to be successful and competitive.

Lauren: Are we comfortable voting to endorse their tier system as well as Senator Olas using the stamped process to write the sport club bills

Olas: Would this be just this year or for following years?

Lauren: I would suggest you endorse it for the year only because it is unfair to vote for future senates. Can I get a motion to endorse this deal?

Brown: I motion

Beghtol: Second

All in Favor: Unanimous, motion passes.

Unfinished Business

Jacket Bill 29-10:

Carr: We got some answers from administration and the ruling is that anything over $25 falls under personal property of the schol. We can’t buy anything over $25 and we can buy our polos because they are under that amount. Senator Holditch proposed that we as ASNAU buy the jackets and check one in and out during your term. If you choose to purchase it you can at the end of the term. That way we won’t buy a whole new set of jackets every year and the money will be returned eventually.

O’Reilly: If you do buy the jacket at the end of time, we have that money to buy another jacket to replace that one you took. It balances out.

Carr: Is the bill in front of us to just open up the line? Should we put it in the bylaws to describe what the senate must do for jackets?

Lauren: Yes we can create a new bylaw

Kristine: I don’t think you need to amend the bill but you can add a whereas to specify that the jacket will stay with ASNAU.

Carr: I move to amend SB 29-10 to add a whereas under 3rd line to read to remain property of ASNAU unless purchased at the end of term

O’Reilly: Second

All in Favor: Unanimous, bill amended

O’Reilly: Move to vote on Item A

Brown: Second

All in Favor: Unanimous

New Action Business

Chair L’Ecuyer: For all the clubs that are here today when I call your item. Come to the podium and if you are here for recognition tell us about your club: number of people, what you do, what you wish to accomplish. If you are here for funding come up and tell us what the funding is for, how much, how will this impact the college.

Item A- Club Recognition for Concrete Canoe

Representative: We want to attract new students and bring new innovative ideas to come in to create our canoe to make it float. We will also enter into a competition in California for a capstone.

Martinez: Are there any conflicts with making clubs from capstones?

Davis: No, but it would be unwise becuase it would be unfair.By creating this you are cutting off certain things to students who are not taking a capstone or class

Holditch: Can any student join?

Rep: Yes we want any new ideas from people who want to learn. We also have paddlers if anyone wants to paddle

Claus: Have you done any outreach?

Rep: I am not sure, I am not part of the team I was just sent to speak

Lee: Have you looked at going through the engineering club?

Rep: We work through ASCE

Lee: So you work with them?

REp: We are separate but we work very close with them and their members join with us

Brown: DO you plan on continuing the club past the capstone?

Rep: YEs we hope to, we want more people to join

Lee: Why do you want to make a club out of a capstone?

Rep: We wanted a new outlook and unique

Carr: What are the benefits if your canoe wins and for the capstone, what is the outcome?

Rep: I think it gives NAU credibility and we can go to nationals and win a scholarship from there

Carr: Would other people in the club that are not in the capstone benefit be able to attend the competitions?

Rep: I think they would knowledge wise

Carr: If there was a prize or anything would they be acknowl deg

Rep: I was a mentee last year and I was acknowledged

Cindy: Would everyone be able to travel?

Rep: I was a mentee last year and was able to travel so yes

Cindy: But non engineering students?

Rep: I believe so, I am not really sure

Cindy: Where do you pay dues?

Rep: ASCE

Cindy: What is the difference between ASCE and the capstone

Rep: The capstone is through school and ASCE is a civil engineering group that we join

Nielsen: ASCE is a recognized club through NAU why is it important to you for your club to be a different club?

Rep: We want people who are non engineering majors and work with outside people

Martinez: Has anyone outside of the engineering field expressed interest?

Rep: Not yet, I don't think many people know about it so it's kind of hard to get people interested

Claus: Are all members seniors?

Rep: We have members in all classes and a few seniors with the people who are doing it as their comatose

Vanessa: Was one of the requirements for the capstone to create a club on campus?

Rep: No it was our idea

Vanessa: If it's not an aspect of the capstone how would the club continue on in the future?

Rep: There are underclassmen that are interested in keeping it going too and it has been for about 6 or 7 years now and the competition is held every year too

Davis: Looking at your constitution, why is it the exact same as the steel bridge club?

Rep: I am not sure?

Lauren: You don't have any connection to the steel bridge club?

Rep: No but they work closely with the ASCE too

Kristine: In Article 4 section 5 says the advisor will have final say for the club?

Rep: He is a professor as well and has been working with concrete canoe since they have had it

Kristne: Is he the instructor?

Rep: Yes

Kristine: It's not unheard of but it is unusual

Desabrais: IS there another group doing the same capstone project?

Rep: no

Brown: HOw do members work in ASCE?

Rep: I don't know how many but we all still go to ASCE meetings

Claus: Are all current majors engineering?

Rep: YEs they are

Lauren; are they all in the capstone class so far?

Rep: Yes

Carr: When you say we have been around for 7 years is that the club or capstone?

Rep: Capstone

Lee: What does a mentee mean?

Rep: I followed a friend around and volunteered to the capstone

Carr: Was that voluntary?

Rep: Yes I chose to do it and got a lot of knowledge from that experience

Vanessa: So since this is a capstone not a class, what is the relation between the captain and club?

Rep: Well capstone is school and ASCE is engineering students

Vanessa; IS the capstone the one to orchestrate this every year?

Rep: YEs I go because it looks good on my resume

Claus: YOu said you pay dues to ASCE, is it required of your club to pay dues to ASCE or dues in general?

Rep: No I only pay because i am part of the club

Item B- Club Recognition for HonorSociety.org

Rep: This is a society so it provides textbook loan services, scholarships, academic achievements and open to all grade and majors. It is vital for students to achieve and get involved in things around them

Carr: WHy did you think this needed to be a recognized club on campus?

Rep: This is a national clb and I wanted to bring it to nau

Overturf: What is the requirement?

Rep: Minjae of 2.0 GPA and there are different criteria to meet with different options

Brown: I get emails all the time

Rep: IT's from the national society and we already have 80 current members on campus

Brown: So you want to make it an officially recognized club because there are already 80 members on campus

Rep: Yes exactly

Brown: So you want a headquarter?

Rep: Yes

Holditch: I don't see any minimum GPA in your constitution?

Rep: I haven't looked over it but anyone can be a member the gpa is just for scholarships

Holditch: Can we have clubs with those kind of requirements?

Senate: YEs we can

Lauren: We have approved others in the past with a jGPA requirement

Carr: What is the dues?

Rep: $50 per year which is reasonable

Kristine: We are allowed to have GPA requirements but 2.0 is pretty low for an honors society

Lee: You said you have 80 members, have you done anything?

Rep: NO not yet the nationals just reached out to me

Lee: So the other members just chill and pay dues?

Rep: Yes there are many opportunities

Vanessa: What is good standing for the university?

Krisnite: Must have at least a 2.0 to be in good standing

Carr: THe school recognizes academic achievement at 3.5 or above, so having a 2.0 or above doesn't seem like an honor

Martinez: 2.0 is required for organization itself?

Rep: Yes for scholarships but not to be a member itself

Martinez: Members are just paying fees right now?

Rep: Yes it's a national org and so I am staring headquarters

Martinez: DO you have any plans for what to do when you do get together?

Rep: Hopefully philanthropy work hikes and networking stuff

Claus: Have you gotten in contact with the 79 members?

Rep: Yes and I have had 8 get back to me with interest in it

Carr: I don't think there is a requirement to be in the honor society without paying dues

Cindy: The $50 that people pay, what comes back to NAU?

Rep: None

Carr: Have any members received scholarshipS? How many?

Rep: yes I don't know how many, but I have received one

Carr: Are they funded through the society or elsewhere?

Rep: THey have both

Desabrais: It says to be an active member you must pay biannual what is that?

Rep: Twice a year $50

Holditch: You said there are categories of membership, what are those?

Rep: based on GPA you get certain acknowledgements

Item C- Club Recognition for NAU Roller Hockey

Rep: We haven’t figured out officer positions yet, but I hope to be VP. I am sorry the President couldn't be here today. We want to start this club as another opportunity to play competitive hockey in addition to ice hockey. We plan to be competitive with the amount of interest we have. Tryouts are Sunday we will probably have about 30 participants this year. Everyone is welcome to tryout. We want to create a competitive club and provide opportunity to play.

Carr: Where will you play?

Rep: East side of Flagstaff, we will bring our own nets and stuff also we are working with the HLC to rent out the gym.

Carr: Is it co ed?

Rep: It can be. WE haven't received interest from female players yet but we can

Carr: Are they allowed to compete?

Rep: Yes definitely

Kristine: They were approved by club sports council as well

Item D- Club Recognition for Steel Bridge Club

Rep: We are trying to create a steel bridge club. IT is a capstone through the civil engineering program. We want to reach out to people interested in fabricating design engineering anything like that. It is open to all members. We are trying to branch off of ASCE to not have to go through two separate chain of commands when buying stuff. It will streamline process of getting things sped up.

Carr: HOw many members of capstone are there going to the competition? How many [people are building the bridge?
