Participation Procedure of Hong Kong Primary School

English Writing Competition 2017 – 2018

Participation Procedure

  1. Each school should fill in the application form (in Excel format).The form can be downloaded fromAppClass.hk.
  2. Each school should emailthe completed application form .
  3. For P1-3 students, please fill in “P1-3List” page in Excel.
  4. For P4-6 students, please fill in “P4-6List” page in Excel. Please note that ‘student_no’ must be filled. If there is no such number, please make one up to identify each student.
  5. An email will be sent to the in-charge teacher with Teacher Login details.
  6. Teachers should go to the website AppClass.hk to login and upload P4 – P6 students’ names and emails using the Excel template provided (“P4-6List”).
  7. Submission:
  8. P1 – P3 students: we accept the HARD COPY of their work only. Before 20 April 2018, please post submissions as a bundle to “Unit 101C, 1/F, Lai Cheong Building, No.479 Castle Peak Road, Kowloon”.
  9. P4 – P6 students:Teachers must give the login information to students to upload their writing to AppClass.hkbefore 20 April 2018.
  10. Any submission without following the aforementioned procedure will not be considered.
  11. Submission Deadline: 20April 2018
  12. The results will be announced on 7 May 2018.

Judging Criteria

Content - 30% / Organization - 30%
Language - 30% / Tone - 10%

**Word count for Primary 4-6 short story is 150 words. However, we will accept a margin of ±5%. Any further writing beyond this may not be considered.

Rules and Regulations

  1. The writing competition is subject to the following terms and conditions. By entering this competition entrants are deemed to have accepted all the terms and conditions.
  2. The writing competition is open to learners of English as a Second Language (ESL) only.
  3. The organiser reserves the right to require proof of consent – if applicable.
  4. Contact details and all other mandatory fields must be completed. All entries must be submitted before 20 April, 2018.
  5. Entries received after the deadline will not be considered.The competition organisers will not be held liable / responsible for any entries that are corrupt, damaged, lost or inaccessible.
  6. Entries into the ‘Hong Kong Primary School English Writing Competition (2017 - 2018)’ must be the ‘original work’ of the contestants and must not contain any third party content. The competition organisers will not be responsible for breach of any copyright or other third party rights by entrants.
  7. At the discretion of the ‘competition organiser’, entries containing defamatory, offensive, obscene, inappropriate or illegal content will be disqualified.
  8. The winning entries will be chosen by a panel of judges. The panel will include representatives from Synergy Education Provider Co. Ltd.
  9. The winners will be selected based on the ‘judging criteria’ outlined.
  10. The judges’ decisions are final (irrefutable) and no correspondence will be entered into.
  11. Winners will be notified by telephone or email. A list of the prize winners will be published on the Competition Organisers’Facebook

  1. Prizes are not transferable and must not be sold. The Competition Organisers reserve the right to substitute, in their reasonable discretion, any prize with a prize of equal value. No cash alternatives will be offered as prizes.
  2. The entrants shall retain all ownership rights in any entry to Hong Kong Primary School English Writing Competition 2017 - 2018. However, by submitting the entry, the entrant grant the Organizer a universal, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, adapt, reformat, translate and otherwise exploit and perform all or any portion of the entry for any purpose whatsoever, including, without limitation, in connection with promotion of the Competition Organisers and Hong Kong Primary School English Writing Competition 2017 - 2018 activities in any and all media formats and through any and all media distribution, advertising and promotional purposes without accounting, notification, credit or other obligation to the entrant. Entrants further agree that the Competition Organizers may edit and manipulate the content of the entry for operational and editorial reasons provided this is not to the detriment of the entrant’s character or reputation.
  3. By entering, any subsequent prize winners agree to allow, and consent to, the Competition Organisers and Hong Kong Primary School English Writing Competition 2017 - 2018 use of, and right to publish, entrant’s name, photographs, images, all personal and other information (including general locations) for purposes of the Competition Organisers and Hong Kong Primary School English Writing Competition 2017 - 2018 publicity, promotional and news purposes (including use in printed publications, editorial and PR activities, and websites) related to this competition.
  4. The Competition Organisers reserve the right to cancel or amend the terms and conditions without prior notice shall unforeseen circumstances call for necessary changes. All amendments will be published on Organisers’ website. All information collected will be for internal use only.
