Ashley Park Families,

We are so excited for this opportunity to put progress reports in your hands before report cards at the end of January. Your support with and understanding of your scholar’s grades are critical for their success! Please use these grades to have conversations with your scholar daily about their progress. Please ask them about what they’ve learned each day and push them to independently read – especially over break. We are in this work together and thankful we are able to collaborate to make this our best year yet at the Park!

NATIONAL THEATER FOR CHILDREN

The scholars in Pre K-1 enjoyed a great assembly given by the National Theater for Children. They learned a great deal about conservation and the importance of saving energy.

K-2 grade scholars should work on their spelling and sight words. They can rainbow write them each day. This means writing them one color, then tracing with another color until they use all of the colors. It is great if they write sentences with these words also. Don't tell your children how to spell everything. Make them sound it out! We are working on them becoming independent writers and readers, so make them do the hard work!1st and2nd graders should work on writing sentences with a good beginning, middle and end. They should correct capital letters and punctuation. In K math, we are working on correctly writing numbers. Writing a number and drawing that many pictures. Ex: 2-005- 00000. We are also practicing deciding if shapes are 2D or 3D and making pictures. In 1st grade math we are working on measuring. Have your child measure with anything! 2nd grade: We are working on deciding what numbers are odd book?” 2nd grade we are working on deciding what numbers are odd and what numbers are even. Give them any number and have them explain if it is odd or even and tell you why!

All 4th graders have IXL logins. On IXL you can practice both math and reading. Most 5th graders have these login usernames and passwords as well. Scholars use this website every week, so they know how to access it and login. ( 3rd graders are heavily into multiplication now. Drilled practice over break would be amazing...Parents please make flashcards with your scholars, or just make up simple multiplication (1 digit x 1 digit) fact worksheets for scholars to solve... Sitting around the house, at the dinner table, in the car, wherever... fire off a fact (6 x 7) and let the scholar mentally solve them. Scholars love when their teachers make it a competition; if there's more than one kid in the house, parents could have them compete. Fire off a fact, whoever solves it correctly first gets a point.
