  1. Dog’s Breakfast Report: Lucy- Was very successful made a profit of $270! David L-very positive event. Neighbourhood Watch (NW) stall was very busy selling raffle tickets and signed up 4 or 5 for NW in Ashfield/Bassendean. One negative were the people who left with their raffle tickets. Verna is not receiving any information from NW anymore-seems to be winding down in favour of ewatch (Police Dept).

Graeme-should the Town of Bassendean (ToB) support NW as not all residents are not internet users? Dave Kelly and Bob Brown will communicate with the new OIC Kiara (Ian North moving on). Both forms of communication are needed as one compliments the other.Syringes found along foreshore Ashfield Pde Pizza and Play Report: Emma- Good turnout for this event, approx. 40 altogether! They enjoyed the pizza, children played together and the adults enjoyed catching up with each other. We will do this again as it does not require a lot of setting up etc.

  1. Gary Blanch Reserve and Signs: Emma-Signs look great in the park. Next event planting and busy bee in the park, propose 18th June 2pm-to be confirmed with ToB. Everlastings and some other plants need to go in and the seats need re-sealing. Will be asking if glyphosate is still being applied in park and couch is encroaching the mulch in some spots.

Geoff-Would the old power pole be suitable for a light? Emma- Is lighting warranted in the park? Solar light on a timer with a low light sensor

  1. Newsletter: David L-The guidelines were discussed and Advanced Press will be printing next newsletter and advertising in it also. Next newsletter before planting day which means copy needs to be in before end of May. Plans to distribute towards Tonkin Hwy into Bayswater and Ashfield PS to get 50-there may be some double up but it reinforces what we want to achieve.
  2. Storage Cube: Paul Caporn demonstrated on his laptop a 3D design for us to comment on. Public liability –can it be climbed on? No, gaps between decorative timber are 10mm not enough room for feet. Paul’s partner, Jane, to investigate and apply to ToB if needs be. Timber could be recycled boards (eg old decking) or even steel-RSJ?
  3. Citizen Science: Meeting next Monday 23rd May 7.30pm here.
  4. General business:
  5. Mark saw a wall of faces in Augusta and wondered if we could do this on our cube or in Bassendean. Even Hall (Wall) of Fame at the Ashfield Sports Club?Emma said how about the wall at IGA? or even put a mural there?Graeme Haggart-Mural made of jigsaw pieces?
  6. Election Day sausage sizzle at Ashfield Primary School.
  7. Bill Busby-Ashfield Sports Club (ASC) is hosting a night of music entertainment with a singer on 21st May 2016, 6-10pm.
  8. Bill Busby - ASC preliminary talks to make the club the Home of Football (soccer)-new stand, clubrooms/changerooms, 5 pitches, parking area etc. David L -500 cars on a Saturday morning? What about the nearby residents? Bill-overflow parking at Cyril Jackson.

Graham/Bill these are preliminary talks only 500 people have been consulted and needs at least 5 years for planning process if ASC is successful. Leo asked for plans etc.

  • Emma Urban Forest Strategy (Draft) is online ToB. Emma is considering a submission- read and say “yes” we support it. We need to protect the existing canopy! Urban Forest working party to calculate % coverage both private and public land.
  • Bob-River Parks Comm as Chair can’t represent AshfieldCAN. AshfieldCAN can be part of the committee.
  • David L- Concerned Councillor Bob Brown will have to excuse himself from voting on AshfieldCAN interests. Bob said he is to take it on a case by case situation according to Bob Jarvis.
  • Bob Brown - Concerns for drain water contamination from Tonkin Business Park. Monitoring of water will need to be done. Tonkin Park mound-is leaching of toxins occurring? Testing/monitoring needed after next rain for drain exiting off Ashfield Parade.
  • David Ring- Issues with speeding situation on Hardy Road.
  • Zion- anything been done about motorbikes on footpaths?
