Project Pride

January and Feburary month report

Introduction:

UrurKuppamMiddle School was inaugurated in 1939 by Mohandas karamchand Gandhi. Orginally a primary school with classes 1 through V, the school was run by the local community with meager support from the Government. The school was severely under-staffed, unhygienic and almost in shambles. With Asha’s constant support the school now offers upto class 8. Having provided better teaching aids, high nutritional meals and richer school campus the school now has a healthy educational environment.

Affected by Tsunami:

Project Pride is a school runs for the fisher man children in Ururkuppam village, Besantnagar, and this school is been affected by tsunami and all the children have lost their houses. And they suffered a lot when the tsunami hit, Asha provided them food and clothes in the beginning and after that we thought to stabilize the school. We wrote a proposal and had discussion about this project with the Asha abroad volunteers especially the project was taken up by Asha Yale chapter and they helped us a lot to raise funds for this school, thanks to all Asha Yale volunteers and the people supported this project. Without you we think it wouldn’t happen.

About Pride school:

This school as classes from 1 to 8th class and all the children are from surrounding areas in besant nagar, odaikuppam, kanagi nagar, ururkuppam and olcott kuppam.Thechildren are highly motivated in their studies and show more progress. The project steward (Jeba)visit the school daily and have an interaction with the children and the teachers of the school in order to maintain a good relationship with the children’s and the teachers. And the children are very much happy when they were in the class. All the teachers are being well qualified in their subjects and they teach their lessons in most practical way, teachers don’t use stick in the class because we insist the teacher not to scold the children and instead of that tell them in a simple way not to do this and this is wrong. The children are very much well behave with the teachers and they keep the environment clean. The children are very happy now and the food we provide is a highly nutritious food.Among the government schools, Urur kuppam stands first in Besantnagar region on maintenance, performance and nutrition, stated by the Assistant Education Officer.
