Fourway Flashers Recording Project
Marketing and Distribution Plan
As we intend for the album to be an independent release, our approach to marketing and distribution will be to use all of the tools at the independent artists disposal.
We’ve recently secured a web server and will be further developing our site in the new year. In addition to acting as a gathering place for all Fourway Flashers information including biographies, ongoing news and touring dates, we will continue to release songs as they are recorded. Fourway Flashers are in a continuing creation and recording process and songwriter Tom Desson writes on a daily basis. For this reason some songs may only be released on the website. We believe that by consistently releasing new material, we can bring fans back to the site and keep them engaged. Of course, the full-length album will be sold in its entirety online, in addition to individual tracks being available for purchase in a digital format.
In addition to developing our website, we’ll be focusing on further development of our EPK, which is currently housed at Sonicbids. Because of the limitations of Sonicbids, in addition to it, we’ll also be developing our own EPK in the new year which will be available on our website. We’re in discussions with Bronwin Parks of Attention Design, and will applying to the VideoFACT PromoFACT program for funding for these projects.
My space
An ongoing commitment to playing locally as much as possible is a natural part of the marketing plan, in order to continue to build the audience for this new project. Though each of the band members have had individual projects, our coming together on Fourway Flashers is relatively new and each show allows us to continue building our buzz and audience.
Fourway Flashers has a number of applications into industry showcases including Canadian Music Week, NXNE and SXSW. Success with any of these applications would provide a natural marketing opportunity. And in the case of SXSW would provide us the opportunity to build a small club tour around the show there.
In terms of touring and playing our current plan is to perform locally as much as possible for the next four months. The recording project would begin in four months, and we would take a break from playing for that process (except in the case of industry showcases as noted above.) Touring in support of the album would begin Fall 2007.
The six song demo is going to press at Indie Pool in December, and will be heavily distributed to campus radio stations throughout Canada in the new year.
Distribution Plan:
The full length album, and in some cases individual tracks would be distributed in the following ways:
-On our website: fourwayflashers.com
-Through CD Baby
-Awarestore.com
-Canadian Campus Radio Stations, as appropriate based on wide demo release.
-Consignment sales at local record stores. (Such as Sams HMV)
-Sales off the stage
We also intend to distribute through emusic.com, but are still researching an appropriate digital aggregator.
