Dear Parents,

As we approach the end of term I am writing to tell you about the latest happenings in school.

Our children have worked extremely hard this term to complete their tests and our junior children are now beginning rehearsals for our ‘Summer Show.’ It is such a shame that the children are only tested in two subjects as there is so much talent in many other areas; excellent sporting achievements, musicians and artists; it is so important that we at St Columba’s recognise all these talents.

Some of our Y3 children made their First Holy Communion last week and were well supported by the rest of our school family. The day was a wonderful celebration for our school, well done to all involved.

Our 20’s, 40’s and 50’s days have been a great success and the children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part (so have the teachers!). Thank you to parents who have supported by providing costumes or props. We understand this can be expensive and do not expect everyone to dress up all the time but the opportunity is there.

Please could parents send children to school in their correct uniform. Trainers and football tops are not part of our school uniform. We want to keep standards and behaviour high at St Columba’s so please help us to do so by following school policy. There are particular issues in Y5 and Y2 at the moment so we need to monitor the situation.

This term we had a special visit from Sister Marianna from Monze in Africa, she came to thank the children for all the money they raise to help fund and build their school. The children enjoyed the visit and Sister Marianna was delighted to talk to the children.

Please see our pictures below:-

Y6 and Y5 joined together for an enterprise day last week which allowed them to use and develop skills needed to help them become citizens of the future. This was a great success and also enormous fun.

We have noticed an increase in the number of children who are arriving late to school in a morning. One day last week around 30 children came through the main entrance because they were late. Please try to ensure the children arrive at school on time so they have a good start to the day. It is disruptive for both the child who is late and the other children in the class if this is happening. Thank you for your support with this.

Finally I hope you have a lovely week with your children, hopefully the sun will shine for us all.
