2. JOB TITLE:Relief Caretaker(Stourvale)

3. RESPONSIBLE TO:Facilities Manager

4. JOB PURPOSE:To provide caretaking duties at the Stourvale Centre to ensure functions and events at the Centre are set up and available to customers as appropriate. To clean, clear and close the Centre as required and ensure a safe and secure environment.

The role has a statutory, occupational requirement to ensure the safety and welfare of all children using our services. The post holder will take responsibility for ensuring safeguarding children is a priority, and follow both YMCA safeguarding policy and Local authority statutory guidance as outlined in the LSCB Compact agreement.

5. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

a)To service the agreed requirements for all customer who have hired the facilities for any event. To set up, open venue and provide warm welcome to all customers.

b)To clear away and close all events and ensure venue is left clean and tidy ready for next event.

c)To clean as required (Lyon Cleaning schedule and specifications should be noted) all general areas that customers will have accessed e.g. Hall, Kitchen, Toilets, Foyer.

d)To close the Centre as per weekly rota and be part of the call out process assuming responsibility for alarm setting and security of the building as required.

e)To maintain the outside of the building to a good standard, including the picking up of litter on the street or outside of the Centre.

f)To carry out simple maintenance tasks, as requested.

g)To be available to supervise outside contractors and others who are needed to work on the property from time to time.

h)To be aware of and carry out the requirements for Health and Safety, Fire Safety, and First Aid, ensuring the safety and security of customers and visitors at all times.

In addition to the job set out in this job description the worker may, from time to time, be required to undertake additional or other duties as necessary within his or her capabilities and status to meet the needs of YMCA Bournemouth.

6. SCALE AND IMPACT

The incumbent will take instructions from the Facilities Coordinator and act in accordance the customers, Children’s Centre staff and Youth workers.

7. DISCRETION TO ACT

The worker will be primarily responsible for the security of the building, safety of all users, and cleanliness of all facilities. The authority and discretion to act will be given and guided by the Facilities Coordinator.

8. ENVIRONMENT

The Stourvale Centre has a range of activities and therefore a diverse spectrum of customers. From the Children’s Centre with parents, babies and toddlers, to the Youth Floor with teenagers 12-19, to vulnerable groups hiring facilities, to the Hall with Birthday Parties/Celebrations of all ages, Church events and groups plus both charitable and corporate conferences and workshops through to theatrical groups.

9. RELATIONSHIPS

Internal - The worker will liaise with the Children’s Centre staff, Youth Workers and other visitors from YMCA Bournemouth.

External- The worker will be encouraged to develop good relationships all customers but especially regular hires of the facilities, and other agencies.

SECTION B: PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. QUALIFICATIONS

No specific academic qualifications required.

2. EXPERIENCE

The worker should ideally have experience of working with people, taking and acting on instructions. With ability to clean, and carry out small maintenance type activities.

3. ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Able to apply policies and follow instructions with sound judgement
  • Interpersonal skills - dispute resolution - conflict resolution
  • An understanding of cleaning and maintenance
  • Living within easy reach of Stourvale Rd BH6 5JB is a strong preference.

SECTION C: TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. SALARY

£7.85 PER HOUR worked paid monthly. (level on scale according to qualifications and experience)

2. HOURS OF WORK

The hours will vary due to demand/seasons and type of events. The core need will be evenings 18.00 to 21.00, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. It is likely to be split sessions based upon a weekly schedule of activities and events. This is a zero hours contract.

3. PAID LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

None, except if any periods worked should entitle the post holder to paid leave under the Working Time Regulations.

4. SICK PAY PROVISION

None

5. PENSION ENTITLEMENT

None, unless any period of work and payments qualify the worker to participate in the YMCA Bournemouth designated stakeholder pension scheme.

6. PERIOD OF NOTICE OFFERED AND REQUIRED

Given the relief status of this work, no notice provision is applicable to this employment. However, it would be helpful if the worker no longer wished to be considered for relief work to let his/her Head of Department know.

7. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The employment will be subject to satisfactory references and a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure. This post is subject to the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) order 1975 and (Exceptions) (Amendment) order 1986.

8. MISCELLANEOUS

Work will be centred at Stourvale Road.
