AS – Testing: Diary of Making –Writing Frame
You need to test EVERY(Box, Business cards and graphic outcomes mock ups, business card holder) product you have made to check their fitness for purpose against the set design requirements. Your finished product needs to be tested under realistic conditions to determine its success and to check its performance and quality. They should be objective and involve customer opinions. Photographic evidence must be provided.
Testing
Describe and justify a range of tests carried out to check the performance and quality of the product.Tests should be carried out with the consumer where possible, including their opinions. Areas to cover:
- Aesthetics, looks, colour, appeal, unique selling point
- Cost, manufacturing costs, customer costs ie good price
- Customer/Consumer/Users
- Environment, sustainability, recyclable materials, energy use
- Safety, Nutritional info,
- Size, appropriate, over packaging, deceptive packaging

- Materials , appropriate, durability, protecting the product, safe
- Manufacturing, cost efficient, energy efficient, appropriate
1) Identify the test name 2) describe the process of testing ie how it was tested. 3) Justify its performance and quality as a result of the test.
Eg. 1) Testing the Aesthetic Appeal
2) I presented my product to the target market and asked them a series of questions to determine their opinions. I asked them about colour, pattern and the general style….etc 3). The results of the test clearly indicated a successful design due to…

Against the brief and criteria
Objectively reference relevant, measurable points of the design brief/s/need/s and criteria. Look at the brief and criteria and measure your success against each spec point. They need to be tests. Describe and justify the success of your product against the required needs of the brief.
For each criteria you need to 1) Reference the spec point you are measuring against 2) objectively (target market, client, language such as : ‘arguably’) measure the success of your product against the spec point.
Eg. 1) I stated that I would use a sustainable material. 2) In consultation with my client we agreed to use 360 gsm recycled card which, although not from a sustainable source we felt that it does limit the impact on the environment due to the fact it does not require virgin pulp therefore reduce the he need for raw materials. However as it is recycled it means chemicals and bleaches will have been used to …We presented our product to our target market for product testing and they felt…
