Gargoyles – with Terri Herring!!!!
Terri Herring is the artist in residence with the 3rd grade on January 28th, 29th and February 4th. Terri is an accomplished artist who has been working in the arts all her life. She studied art at Queens College, and the Clay Studio. Terri has been teaching classes at many local schools and at her home studio. She directs Ravens Run Art Camp in New Hope.
Gargoyles: from Gothic to Grotesque:
During her 2 day residency with the 3rd grade, Terri will teach the students to create gargoyles using pinch pot construction and basic hand building techniques. The students will look at European and American architecture and discuss the various styles and uses of gargoyles as decoration, protection and as functional water spouts. Each student will create their own medieval gargoyle using his or her imagination.
Please take the time to discuss Terri Herring’s residency with your child. We're sure they will be very excited to share with you their experiences!
About Artist In Residence:
Terri Herring’s residency is made possible through Artists In Residence, the area’s only non-profit organization dedicated to placing professional visual, performing, and literary artists into area schools. AIR works with your child’s teacher in developing curriculum-based arts programming which enriches and enlivens your child’s educational experience. Each residency offers students a unique opportunity to interact with professional artists in a supportive learning environment. Funding for AIR programs such as this one is provided by donations from parents, community members, corporations, The New Hope Solebury H.S.A., and fundraising events sponsored by AIR. If you are interested in volunteering for AIR, please contact: Sue McKinnon at 215-321-4441 for additional information.
