Confessing the Faith
ARTICLE XV: Of the Christian Sabbath
We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s Day or Christian Sabbath; and is to be kept sacred to religious purposes, by abstaining from all secular labor and sinful recreations; by the devout observance of all the means of grace, both private and public; and by preparation for that rest that remains for the people of God.
Taken from the Articles of Faith of MHMBC: “The New Hampshire Confession” - written in 1833, first adopted by this church on November 1st, 1903

Lord of the Sabbath
1Lord of the Sabbath, hear us pray,
In this Your house, on this Your day;
And own, as grateful sacrifice,
The songs which from Your temple rise.
Now met to pray and bless Your Name,
Whose mercies flow each day the same;
Whose kind compassions never cease,
We seek instruction, pardon, peace,
We seek instruction, pardon, peace.
2Your earthly Sabbaths, Lord, we love,
But there’s a nobler rest above;
To that our laboring souls aspire
With ardent hope and strong desire.
In Your blest kingdom we shall be
From every mortal trouble free;
No sighs shall mingle with the songs
Resounding from immortal tongues,
Resounding from immortal tongues.
3No rude alarms of raging foes;
No cares to break the long repose;
No midnight shade, no waning moon,
But sacred, high, eternal noon.
O long expected day, begin,
Dawn on these realms of woe and sin!
Break, morn of God, upon our eyes;
And let the world’s true Sun arise,
And let the world’s true Sun arise!

Tune: O God, My Help in Ages Past
Psalm 44:1-8
Some Israelite patriot fallen on evil times sings in mingled faith and sorrow his country's ancient glory and her present griefs, her traditions of former favour and her experience of pressing ills. By Christians it can best be understood if put into the mouth of the church when persecution is peculiarly severe.
(Spurgeon, Treasury of David)
1O God, we with our hears have heard,
Our fathers have us told,
What works You in their days have done,
Ev’n in the days of old.
2Your hand the Canaanites drove out,
Afflicted all were they;
Our fathers you gave freedom to and
Planted in their place.
3’Twas not their sword that won the land,
Now ‘twas their arm did save;
But Your right hand, arm, countenance;
To them Your favor gave.
4You are my King: for Jacob, Lord,
Deliv’rances command.
.5Through You we shall push down our foes
That do against us stand.
We, through Your name, shall tread down those
That ris’n against us have.
6For in my bow I shall not trust,
Nor shall my sword me save.
7But from our foes You have us saved,
Our haters put to shame.
8In God we all the day do boast,
And ever praise Your name.

Tune: Come, Thou Fount
Gathered In Thy Name
Gathered in Thy name, Lord Jesus,
Losing sight of all but Thee,
O what joy Thy presence gives us,
Calling up our hearts to Thee!
Loved with love which knows no measure,
Save the Father’s love to Thee,
Blessed Lord, our hearts would treasure
All the Father’s thoughts of Thee.
All His joy, His rest, His pleasure –
All His deep delight in Thee –
Lord, Thy heart alone can measure
What Thy Father found in Thee.
How He set His love upon Thee –
Called Thee His beloved Son;
Yet for us He did not spare Thee,
By Thy death our life was won.
O the joy, the wondrous singing,
When we see Thee as Thou art!
Thy blest name, Lord Jesus, bringing
Sweetest music to God’s heart.
Notes of gladness, songs unceasing,
Hymns of everlasting praise,
Psalms of glory, joy increasing,
Through God’s endless day of days.

Here Is Love
1. Here is love, vast as the ocean,
Loving-kindness as the flood,
When the Prince of Life, our Ransom,
Shed for us His precious blood.
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He can never be forgotten,
Throughout heav’ns eternal days.
2. On the mount of crucifixion,
Fountains opened deep and wide;
Through the floodgates of God’s mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide.
Grace and love, like mighty rivers,
Poured incessant from above,
And Heav’n’s peace and perfect justice
Kissed a guilty world in love.
3. Let me all Thy love accepting,
Love Thee, ever all my days;
Let me seek Thy kingdom only
And my life be to Thy praise;
Thou alone shalt be my glory,
Nothing in the world I see.
Thou hast cleansed and sanctified me,
Thou Thyself hast set me free.
4. In Thy truth thou dost direct me
By Thy Spirit through Thy Word;
And Thy grace my need is meeting,
As I trust in Thee, my Lord.
Of Thy fullness Thou art pouring
Thy great love and power on me,
Without measure, full and boundless,
Drawing out my heart to Thee.

Psalm 24 (ESV)
The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the LORD
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD, strong and mighty,
the LORD, mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD of hosts,
He is the King of glory!

I Will Praise Him Still
When the morning comes on the farthest hill
I will sing His name, I will praise Him, still.
When dark trials come and my heart is filled
With the weight of doubt, I will praise Him, still.
(Chorus)
For the Lord, our God, He is strong to save
From the arms of death, from the deepest grave,
And He gave us life in His perfect will,
And by His good grace, I will praise Him, still.
