ARTHURIAN LEGEND COMPARE/CONTRAST ESSAY

I. Introduction: Interesting hook! (question, quote, facts, storyline)

Developed thesis statement:

When comparing and contrasting “Le Morte d’Arthur” to First Knight, the love triangle, chivalric behaviors, and King Arthur’s death provide key details for an in-depth literary analysis.

Camelot and “Le Morte d’Arthur” provide the audience with interesting facts

regarding utopian societies.

First Knight, Camelot, and “Le Morte d’Arthur” all contain similar data supporting Arthurian Legend; however, they also clearly show how over time different renditions of King Arthur’s life evolved.

II. Body: Make sure the body of the paper follows the order of the thesis

statement. Block method or point-by-point comparing or contrasting

is necessary to successfully write this type of paper.

Remember to transition into the next paragraph. This will require devising a link

from the last paragraph to the next paragraph.

e.g. Even though the love triangle created a disharmony between characters, there

was still a profound respect for each other that represented chivalric behavior.

III. Second item to be compared and contrasted. Point-by-point or block method.

Transition!

IV. Third item to be compared and contrasted. Point-by-point or block method.

Transition!

V. Conclusion: Refer back to the interesting hook. Answer any questions asked, address any facts used, quotes supplied, and or storylines identified. Then…restate the thesis statement. This will require a revision of the thesis statement in the introductory paragraph.

Remember this is a compare and contrast essay, not a plot summary. Focus on

similarities and differences. DO NOT JUST RETELL THE STORIES.

The medieval word list will be provided; include five different terms in the essay.

Have fun writing this paper, be creative, and look for a fresh way to present these resources in a compare and contrast format.
