Arthur Stanlick Elementary School
Back-To-School Night
09/28/2017
In order to save some time, when you have a chance, please read the following points that Mr. Lipton would like to remind you of or bring to your attention. Some, but not all, of these will be addressed during the presentation.
- Arrival time-If you drive students to school, please have them here by 8:30. School instruction starts at 8:45. That means we need all students in HR by 8:35 to make sure we can get all materials away and organized, take attendance, fill lunch counts, make announcements, listen to the patriotic song of the day, say the Pledge of Allegiance, and do morning work. Students are ‘tardy’ as of 8:35. By dropping off between 8:20-8:30, we can work together to make sure students have enough time to exit the car and get to his/her class.
- When visiting the school, please make sure you stop at the main office before proceeding to other parts of the school. For the protection of all of our students and staff, we take security very seriously. If someone walks by the office, and we do not see who it was, it could put us in an emergency situation (ie. Lockdown).
- Navigating our Website

Blackboard Connect will automatically call the numbers that arelisted in Realtime. If you would like notifications via both cell phone and text, please make sure you enter your cell number for each location. In order to check or change information, simply log on to the Parent Portal. There is a link in the middle of the Homepage called “View/Update contacts”. Please make any changes and save them there. Also, the communication will only come to all the numbers if the sender (district or school) indicates that it should. Otherwise it will only go to the main number, first e-mail, and first text that are listed.
- Who Should You Call? Please help us to help you to resolve your concerns.
- Something that happened in class (including grading, homework, behavior, student-student or student-teacher interactions, etc.), the first person you should call is that teacher (the e-mail addresses for most staff is their - a list of all of our staff is available on our website). By doing this, you will find out all information regarding the situation (from your child and the teacher) and you and that teacher will hopefully be able to resolve all concerns.
- Questions or concerns regarding a possible case of bullying please contact Ms. LaConti, our Anti-Bullying Specialist.
- If you have a concern with your child’s academic progress, please contact his/her teacher or Ms. LaConti, depending on the situation. If your child is covered by our Child Study Team, please contact his/her Case Manager with any concerns regarding progress, academics, placement, or counseling.
- If your child is covered by either a 504 plan or an I&RS Action Plan, please contact Ms. LaConti.
- If, at any of these levels, your concerns are not addressed or met, please then call Mr. Lipton.
- Student discipline or Code of Conduct violations, please contact Mr. Lipton.
- BSI/Title I
- What is it?
- Title I is a federal program to gives financial aid to districts based on the number of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch.
- Many districts use this money to help support BSI programs.
- How do we use it at Stanlick?
- Title I money goes to help support the Language Arts BSI program. However, we also offer BSI for Mathassistance
- It is a combination of a Pull-out/Push-in Program. That means that sometimes the teacher will pull the students from their regular class in order to offer smaller group/individual instruction. Sometimes the teacher pushes into the class to work with the whole class, or smaller groups (reading groups) within the classroom.

- Policy 2415 (series- includes NCLB, Title I, HQT, etc)
- Celebrations and Food- Please understand with dietary restrictions, allergy issues, health issues, and potential pest problems, Jefferson Township Public Schools does not allow food in the classrooms for individual celebrations (birthdays, etc.). However, working with the PTA, food will still be allowed during the few PTA parties during the year. The PTA will handle all the arrangements for the food to ensure that the district guidelines are met.If you would like to have the teacher and class acknowledge your child’s birthday, please contact the teacher for ideas. If you choose to send in birthday favors (pencils, erasers, etc.), please refrain from sending in latex based items due to potential allergies.
- A few notes from our health office:
- Healthy eating- please make sure students eat something in the morning. A good idea could also be to put a granola bar or similar in their back pack in case they are rushed in the morning and don’t have time to eat. We have notices many students coming to school saying they are hungry. Please also know that breakfast is available for purchase each morning in the cafeteria
- Healthy sleeping- we have also noticed students being very tired in the morning. Please help your children to make sure they are getting plenty of sleep. One suggestion is to remove all electronics from their bedroom and to make sure they are of them several hours before bed. Research has shown that the light from computers, Ipads, video games, etc. stimulates the brain and makes it harder for students to unwind and sleep.
- Harassment, Intimidation, and bullying (HIB)
- “Harassment, intimidation, or bullying” means any gesture, any written, verbal or physical act, or any electronic communication, as defined in N.J.S.A. 18A:37-14, whether it be a single incident or a series of incidents that:

- 4. A reasonable person should know, under the circumstances, that the act(s) will have the effect of physically or emotionally harming a pupil or damaging the pupil’s property, or placing a pupil in reasonable fear of physical or emotional harm to his/her person or damage to his/her property; or

- Seven unexcused absences will result in a phone call and letter (on portal) from Mr. Lipton. Similarly, the purpose of this is to make sure that records are accurate and to make sure the parent recognizes that the child is close to ten unexcused absences.
- Ten unexcused absences- by state law, at this point, a complaint must be filed with Jefferson Police for a court hearing. You will also receive a phone call and letter from Mr. Lipton just prior. Again, to make sure that all information is correct before filing occurs.
