ART AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

A Juried Exhibition

June 22 to August 3, 2018

ExhibitionStatement

Although this exhibition will be juried with the same standards as other art exhibitions - originality, formal interest, strength and clarity of visual statement - it is a specialized exhibition and has additional criteria.

ITS CONTENT IS LIMITED TO CONCERNS FOR A SOCIALLY JUST WORLD.

South Bend Heritage Foundation (SBHF), a local community development corporation in South Bend, Indiana, developed the Colfax Campus as part of its strategy for energizing a previously neglected urban neighborhood. The Colfax Campus Gallery is located in the Colfax Cultural Center, a former 1898 elementary school building. The gallery spaces are also used as rooms where many diverse groups meet. As a result, new and fresh audiences are continually introduced to the arts.

“Art and Social Justice” was the title of a joint exhibition of work by artists Jake Webster and Douglas Kinsey. The theme, a socially just world, is particularly reflective of South Bend Heritage Foundation’s mission and therefore inspired this annual juried exhibition. In its twenty-ninth year, the annual Art and Social Justice Exhibition has become a significant and anticipated Colfax Campus Gallery event
