ART 451.26: Technology in the Art Class Room

Course Description: This course will explore the use of various computer technologies in teaching art. Students will learn about and design basic web pages using Dreamweaver. There will be an introduction to basic tools in Photoshop to explore: 1) animation using digital photography and iMovie/iDVD, 2) sharpening PowerPoint presentations by including photographs and animating slides, and 3) developing PowerPoint portfolios, and 4) developing stencils for t-shirt designs or paintings.

Goals:

To understand the major types of technology that may be used in the art classroom through a review of examples taken from various sources.

To design and implement projects using technology. (VACS-4C, 4D, 4F, 7J)

To illustrate how to avoid pitfalls in using technology.

4C. creates art works in two and three dimensions and in the time arts.

4D. creates art works that are realistic, abstract, conceptual, functional, and decorative.

4F. creates art works which demonstrate the process of problem solving and creative exploration.

7J. effectively uses resources (technology, materials, and physical environment) to facilitate students’ learning.

7L. identifies and applies teaching methods for integrating visual arts with other art forms and other subject areas.

Course Requirements:

  1. Participation in lectures, discussions, and demonstrations(10%)
  2. Familiarization and developing competence in use of digital photography with Photoshop, PowerPoint, DreamWeaver, , Illustrator, stencils, iMovie, and iDVD (30%)
  3. Review and critique of assigned projects throughout the semester. (10%)
  4. Development of projects using various technologies(50%)
