Engagement:

(Domestic)

-  The team have undertaken a big effort to secure some ‘last minute’ visits to schools for another chance to engage with Yr12’s, and share new scholarship, course and pathway information with them before they head off to prepare for their mocks. Academic Excellence Awards will now include students who attain an ATAR of 80+ and are to recognise the potential in these students. Last week saw the team secure additional visits to Frederick Irwin Anglican School, Irene McCormack Catholic College, Applecross SHS, CBC Fremantle, PLC and Iona. This week will see the team visiting Yr 12s at St Stephens (Carramar), Mercy College, All Saints College, John Curtin College of the Arts, Corpus Christi, and Willetton SHS.

-  Other presentations and visits this week with Yr 9s and 10s will be held with Living Waters Lutheran College and Joseph Banks Secondary College, and we will be hosting 120 Yr 11 students from Frederick Irwin Anglican School on campus for the day this Thursday.

-  Whilst we are looking forward to the school holidays and some time to commence planning for 2017, we still have a couple of major events over the holiday break. The Media Portfolio Prep Day will be held on Tuesday 27th Sept. and we are still taking registrations. Link is at http://www.experience.murdoch.edu.au/event/portfolio/ and on Thurs 6th Oct, we will be hosting 100 Yr 9-10 students for ‘A Day in The Life of a Uni Student’. Registrations have now closed for this event.

(International)

Chinese Community engagement to Murdoch

-  In conjunction with a student recruitment agent in Perth, Int'l Engagement and MIT hosted about 50 prospective international students and temporary resident holders to a Murdoch information session at Kim Beazley.

-  The aim was to showcase a range of Murdoch unique courses and facilities (relating to hands-on practical component). Three key Schools were on the itinerary including VLS, SEIT and Arts. One of the activities included a visual and practical demonstration session about Photography and Light Painting activity at the Arts studio. The activity was very engaging and all the visitors were amused with this sort of sophisticated technology and hadn't realised a major of such could be undertaken at University level. The options of double majors were also introduced to the prospects.

Indonesia activities

-  Last week, Fozzil attended a series of events in Indonesia including presenting a Study Abroad workshop at Gadjah Mada University in Yogjakarta and Global Insights & International Day at Padjajaran University in Bandung. Fozzil also attended the Supermentor Forum at The Australian Embassy in Jakarta, where Murdoch was a co-sponsor. Some of the most successful and influential entrepreneurs including CEO of the Blue Bird Group Mrs Noni Purnomo and founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Ambassador Dino Patti Djalal were invited to share their success stories to inspire students to develop skills at University before pursuing the career path of their choice.

(Outreach)

-  Last Friday, the Outreach team hosted 48 Year 9 students and 3 teachers from Warnbro Community High School. The students competed in an Amazing Race around campus and then attended a number of MasterClass activities including light painting, screen production, veterinary science, forensic facial reconstruction and also health and exercise science. The teachers praised the engaging activities delivered by Murdoch staff and described the experience as very rewarding for their students.

OSQA:

Surveys:

-  Murdoch is currently participating in the Respect.Now.Always. survey which is being run by the Human Rights Commission and Universities Australia. Over the past year we have heard a great deal about sexual assault and sexual harassment experienced by students at Australian universities. This issue affects all Australian university students regardless of their gender, ethnicity or the university at which they are studying. The survey is a critical part of the university sector’s Respect. Now. Always. campaign that aims to prevent and address these unacceptable behaviours and keep university students safe.
