Children forwhomArnoldHillisthenamedAcademyinanEducation,HealthandCareplanwillbeadmitted.

OversubscriptionCriteria

ArnoldHillisaverypopularAcademyandwecannotalwaysaccommodateallthechildrenwhoapply.IftheAcademyisoversubscribed,thefollowingcriteriawillbeusedtodeterminetheallocationofplaces in the order set out below:

  1. Alookedafterchildor a child who has previously been looked after.
  2. Childrenwholiveinthecatchmentareaontheclosingdateforapplications.
  3. Childrenwholiveoutsidethecatchmentarea but the parent is a member of staffand hasbeenemployed attheAcademy fortwoor moreyearsatthetimeat whichtheapplicationforadmissiontotheAcademyis madeorthe memberof staffisrecruitedtofilla vacantpostforwhichthereisa demonstrableskillshortage.
  4. ChildrenwholiveoutsidethecatchmentareabutwhoattendtheArnoldHill Familyof Schools:Arnbrook, ArnoldView, ArnoVale, CoppiceFarm,Ernehale and MapperleyPlainsand wereontherollofoneof theseschoolsatthetimeoftheclosingdateofapplication.
  5. Otherchildrenwholiveoutsidethecatchmentarea.

Oversubscription within any criterion

In the event of oversubscription within any criterion, preference will be given to the children who live nearest to the school.Distance will be measured using Google Earth and will be as ‘the crow flies’ from the front gate of the child’s registered home address to the main doors of the school reception.

Admissiontothe6th Form

ArnoldHillAcademyPost-16centrepresentlyoffers‘A’levelandarangeofvocationalcourses.Subsequently weproposethe followingadmissionscriteria:

  • 5 GCSEsatgradesA*-C(includingGCSEEnglishandGCSEMathematicsforALevelstudy)
  • AMinimumofgradeCinarelatedGCSEforacademicLevel3courses(Bgradesarerecommendedby theAcademy)
  • AminimumofgradeC(or equivalent)ina relevantsubjectforcoursesnotstudiedpreviously

TheserequirementsdonotincludeEnglishoralgradesorGCSEhalfcoursegrades.

TheadmissionnumberforthePost-16centrewillbe350,ofwhichweanticipatethatthe minimumnumberofapplicationstoYear12fromoutsidetheAcademywillbeone.TherewillbenoupperadmissionlimitforapplicationstoYear12fromoutsidetheschool.Ameetingwillbeheldtoadviseandclarifyentrancerequirementsforparticularcourses;thesearealsogiven inthe6thFormprospectus.

OversubscriptionCriteriaforthe6th Form

Wherethenumberofapplicationsforadmissionexceedsthenumberofplacesavailable, thefollowingcriteria willbeappliedintheordersetoutbelow,todecidewhichchildrentoadmit:

  1. A looked after child or a child who has previously been looked after.
  1. Proximity to the school will be used with those living nearer being given priority.

Intheeventofoversubscription,theAcademywilloperateawaitinglist.Achild’splaceonthelistwillbe determinedbytheadmissionover-subscription criteria.Thatplacemaygoupordowndependingonwhether placesbecomeavailableoriflateormid-termapplicationsarereceived. If you wish to be put on the waiting list contact the Academy.

Co-ordinated admission Scheme

All applications for places in the normal year of entry (Year 7) are made to the home local authority on the common application form.For entrance to the school in September the closing date of the co-ordinated admission scheme is 31st October in the preceding year.Places are offered on National Offer Day which is 1stMarch.

Late Applications for Year 7

LateapplicationswillbeprocessedinlinewithNottinghamshire CountyCouncil’spublishedco-ordinatedscheme.Theywillbeconsidered,iftheapplicantcanprovideevidencethatthere wereexceptionalreasonsfor missingtheclosingdate,forexamplefamilybereavement,hospitalisationorfamilytrauma.Supporting evidence may be required.

InYear Admissions

Admissionsinyearmustbesubmitted toNottinghamshireCountyCouncil.Applicationsreceivedmid-termwill bedealtwithinaccordancewiththeAcademy’s criteria.Ifaplaceisavailableintheappropriateyeargroup, thenthatwill beoffered.Ifplacesaren’tavailable parents will be notified.Applicationformsanddetailsabouthow toapplyareavailable at:

Transfers are co-ordinated by the Nottinghamshire County Council on our behalf and parents will need to apply through a common application form through their local authority.

Repeatapplicationsinthesameacademicyearwillnotbeconsideredunlessthereissignificantmaterial changeincircumstances.

Hard to Place Children

ArnoldHillAcademy participatesinNottinghamshireCountyCouncil’sFairAccessProtocol (SchoolAdmissions Code3.9). Specialconsideration willbegiventorequestfromthelocalareapupilplacementpanelfor “hardtoplacechildren”undertheFairAccessPanel.

Independent Appeals

ParentswhohavebeenrefusedaplaceattheAcademyhavetherighttoappealtoanindependentpanel. Parentswishingtoappealshouldwriteto theAdmissions Officeratthe

Academywithin20schooldays ofnotification of refusal of a place.Anyquerieswillbedealtwithbythe Academy.

Withdrawing an Offer of a Place

Places may be withdrawn if:

  • an offer of a place was made on the basis of inaccurate information being submitted
  • a parent fails to respond to an offer of a place within 20 school days
  • a parent accepts a place but fails to send their child within 20 school days (without a valid reason)

Places cannot be ‘kept open’, i.e. we cannot offer a place to a child that is not intending to come to the school until the family have moved to the area but want the place before they move.

Definitions

Looked after Children

Alookedafter childisachildwhois(a)inthecareofalocal authorityor(b)beingprovidedwithaccommodationbyalocalauthorityintheexerciseoftheirsocial servicesfunctionsinaccordance withsection22(1)oftheChildrenAct1989atthetimeofmakingan applicationtoaschool.Previouslylookedafterchildrenarechildrenwhowerelookedafter butceasedto be sobecausetheywereadopted(or becamesubjecttoachildarrangementsorderorspecialguardianshiporder).ThisincludeschildrenwhowereadoptedundertheAdoptionAct1976andchildrenwhowere adopted undersection46oftheAdoption andChildrenAct2002.Childarrangementsordersaredefinedin section8oftheChildrenAct1989asamendedbysection12oftheChildrenandFamiliesAct2014.Child arrangementsordersreplaceresidenceordersandanyresidenceorderinforcepriorto22April2014is deemedtobeachildarrangements order.Section14AoftheChildrenAct1989definesa‘special guardianshiporder’asanorderappointingoneormoreindividualstobeachild’sspecialguardian/s.

Parent

Parent includesallnaturalparentswhethertheyaremarriedornotoranypersonwithparental

Responsibilityorwhohascareofa childoryoungperson.Havingparentalresponsibilitymeansassumingalltherights, duties, powers,responsibilitiesandauthoritythat a parentofa childhasbylaw.Peopleotherthana child’snaturalparentcanacquireparentalresponsibility.

Residence

Thisisdefinedasthechild’spermanent placeofresidence,whichisdeemedtobetheresidential propertyatwhichthechildnormallyandhabitually resideswiththepersonorpersons havingparental responsibilityforthechildatthetimeof completionof theapplicationform.Ifachild’sparentslive at separate addresses,whicheverofthetwoaddresses thechildpermanently spendsatleastthreeschoolnightswillbetakenastheplaceofresidence.Addressesofotherrelatives orfriends willnotbeconsideredasthe placeofresidenceevenwhenthechildstays there forallorpartofthe week.Proofofpermanentresidenceandotherevidencefromthecourtregardingparentalresponsibilities in thesemattersmay berequired.
