ARIZONA FAIR HOUSING PARTNERSHIP MEETING MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 – 2:30PM
ATTENDING: Debbie Pearson, Kim Van nimwegen, Jim Marshall, Jesus Gonzalez, Monica Schulik, Shawna Tarboro & Darrel Christenson
The group discussion started with suggestions on how to gain additional meeting participation. Among the ideas were to hold a breakfast meeting in October. Eventually the group decided to stay with the Wednesday meetings at 2:30PM per the recent survey results.
Monica will check with GoDaddy on the web site status in time for our next meeting.
The location and date of the Annual Fair Housing Symposium was discussed. Monica will check the availability of the Phoenix Association of Realtors location with a capacity of roughly 200 attendees. As a back-up Darrel has the Ability360 Conference Center on hold with a capacity of 150. Friday, April 20th from 9:00AM – 4:00PM was the agreed upon date and time.
Various names were suggested for marketing a theme – “Fair Housing Opportunities……..50 Years and Counting” was chosen. This will reflect both the morning sessions covering a historical look back with case law, timeline for adding additional protected classes and personal stories from speakers AND the afternoon sessions talking about where we go from here with a call to action, societal context regarding fair housing act and HUD funding cuts and relevant fair housing information.
Speakers to be contacted include: Dr. Matthew Whitiker (Shawna), Rebecca Flanagan (Shawna), Dr. Sheila Harris, Monica has a speaker in mind, Stephanie Smelnick (Debbie), Rep. Gallego (Jesus) and Rep. Grajava (if needed Darrel will contact).
Debbie mentioned possible sponsorships this year, with levels being $500, $250 & $100. She will check on the “gets” for us and report back next month.
Shawna will again work on developing flyers, programs, brochures and sponsorship collateral materials.
