Reports to:Children & Families Service Manager, Northern Ireland

Purpose of Job:

To provide sighted assistance to blind or partially sighted employees to enable them to complete job tasks effectively

Impact:

Support two members of staff with sight loss, who work directly with children and adults with sight loss.

Financial Responsibility:

Main Accountabilities:

  1. To provide, where required, sighted guidance for the employee to locations throughout Northern Ireland which aren’t always accessible by public transport. A full driving licence and a car are required.
  1. To provide general orientation and sighted assistance around unfamiliar venues including locating toilets, catering facilities etc.
  1. To provide sighted assistance during meetings, events, exhibitions and training sessions.
  1. To provide sighted assistance with risk assessments for children, families and community events.
  1. To scan read documents to highlight relevant sections to the employee.
  1. To read inaccessible documents and web pages to the employee.
  1. To provide sighted assistance with data entry including proof reading, e.g. updating and maintaining databases and contact lists.
  1. To proof read printed documents that the employee has written to check visual aspects.
  1. To provide administrative support including filing, taking meeting notes, transcribing, photocopying and completion of expenses claims.

General

  1. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post

1.1 Understanding of issues experienced by people with sight loss.

1.2 Knowledge and experience of standard office procedures.

1.3 Basic IT skills in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
