Job Title: Counter Assistant

Pay Rate: £7.05 - £7.50 per hour

Hours: 30 per week

Responsible to: General Manager/Operations Manager/Maître D

Department: Plaza Café

Main Function: To assist in the sale of all food and beverage items in the Plaza Café ensuring licensing stipulations and in house regulations are met whilst overseeing the health and safety of all patrons and team associates, cash and stock handling and providing a high level of customer care.

Purpose of Job

To assist the Plaza Management to maximise the business potential of the Catering and Bar operation within the venue through effective delivery of an excellent customer experience in keeping with the ethos of the Plaza’s focus on the complete customer experience in a heritage environment.

The Counter Assistant will be expected to uphold Plaza business values, be an excellent team player with entrepreneurial flair and deliver a high standard of product knowledge to the customer. The post holder will be passionate about food and drink to ensure that The Plaza remains as the most welcoming and inclusive venue for social, business and special occasions in the region, and that catering generates a financial contribution for the venue.

The Counter Assistant will have a broad understanding of Health and Safety legislation, catering abilities and a hands on approach to any given task within variable hours that ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all areas of the catering and bar facilities in Stockport’s home of live entertainment and the very best in film presentation.

Duties & Responsibilities

·  To maintain excellent standards of customer care with a friendly and helpful manner in line with the guidelines and training given by Plaza Café and senior management on induction.

·  To maintain excellent standards of Plaza Café counter display and Café layout as directed by Plaza Café and senior management.

·  Excellent awareness of all products available on the Café/Bar menu to ensure effective advice to customers and floor staff.

·  To undertake the sale and service of alcoholic products strictly in line with the stipulated guidelines of the Plaza premises license and in-house licensing guidelines.

·  To strictly adhere to all guidelines and regulations as detailed in the venue license on behalf of the Designated Premises Supervisor.

·  Operate cash handling and PDQ machines accurately and in line with policy and procedures.

·  Receive floats and assist in end of day cashing up.

·  Reconcile and issue bills to patrons.

·  Participate in training and development to ensure effective service to our customers.

·  Attend staff meetings and contribute ideas where possible.

·  Communicate and co-operate effectively with staff in other areas of the building.

·  Prioritise day-to-day service requirements effectively without the need for full-time supervision.

·  Undertake all clearing and cleaning requirements in the Café/Bar and Kitchen areas before, during and after service, ensuring the hygienic delivery and storage of any stock in accordance with The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006, following all appropriate HACCP procedures.

·  Assist with the development and review of risk assessments and safe working practices and ensure all COSHH data regularly monitored and updated as applicable.

·  Be available to accept deliveries and have responsibility of preparation of all sales areas for trading hours, including purchase and storage of required chemicals and adhere to COSHH regulations.

·  Adhere to the rota request format and follow appropriate procedures for notifying absence.

·  Actively support, encourage and have an awareness of general Plaza activities.

·  To undertake a supervisory role when required to meet and greet guests and oversee Plaza Café service.

·  Assist with function and event service within the venue when required in conjunction with the General Manager

·  Carry out any other duties that can reasonably be expected of you in the effective running of the catering provision.

Essential / Desirable
Technical Competencies / ·  Experience of hygiene management in a catering environment
