PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Architectural aluminum extruded muntin grids of the following types:

2. Glazed-in muntin grids.

3. Tape-applied muntin grids.

1.2 RELATED SECTIONS

B. Section 08920 - Aluminum Curtain Walls.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1. Manufacturer's printed installation instructions, showing required preparation and installation procedures.

2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

3. Installation methods.

4. Cleaning and maintenance instructions.

C. Verification Samples: Submit representative sample of profiles and color proposed for use. Assembled aluminum muntin grids must be reviewed and approved prior to bid.

D. Closeout Submittals: Documentation of manufacturer's finish and workmanship warranties.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer: Minimum 10 years experience with fabricating similar muntin systems for storefront and curtain wall framing.

B. Pre-Installation Meetings: Conduct a pre-installation meeting with Installer to verify project requirements, substrate conditions, construction documents, details and manufacturer's warranty requirements.

C. Mockups:

1. Mock-ups of fully-assembled grids are required for approval prior to permanent installation.

2. Approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver, store and handle materials as recommended by manufacturer.

1.6 WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard limited warranty.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

B. Substitutions: Not permitted.

C. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

2.2 ARCHITECTURAL MUNTIN GRIDS FOR STOREFRONTS AND CURTAIN WALLS

A. General Requirements:

1. Assembled, extruded aluminum muntin grids for field-installation over glass glazing in aluminum frames or shop-installation over pre-glazed frames.

2. Manufactured nominal 1/8 inch (1.6 to 3 mm) smaller in width and height overall than the ' daylight opening' of the glazing area.

3. Perimeter Profile: Sloped, resembling the mid-muntins and not interfering with adjacent glazing vinyl.

4. Pattern and Profile: As shown on the Drawings.

5. Finish and Color: Match aluminum frames in which muntin grids are to be placed unless otherwise specified on Drawings.

7. Finish and Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range.

8. Spacers within Insulating Glass: Color as selected by Architect, aligned with muntins to provide a ' true-divided-lite' appearance.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Recommended for standard tubular storefront framing. Delete if not required

B. Screw Applied Muntins:

1. Removable allowing for future glass washing or glass replacement.

2. Not anchored through the sill or positioned as to cause leakage within the adjacent framing.

3. Cushion Buttons: Clear or same-colored silicone buttons with single-side adhesive on grid intersections at the surface of muntin grids adjacent to glass preventing noise and allow for positive water-wash.

4. Anchoring Locations: Screw-anchored at no less than two locations per side of grids, and not less than one location at the top of the grid at midpoint to the surrounding framing.

5. Anchor Screws: Rust-resistant aluminum, stainless steel or nickel. Touch-up paint screw-heads in the field as needed.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Recommended for partial grids and unique settings. Delete if not required.

C. Glaze-In System: Apply a thin (0.040 - 0.031 inch) single-sided tape to the back sides of the perimeter so as to separate the muntin system from making contact with the glass.

D. Tape Applied Muntin Grids: Clean glass surfaces and use 3M VHB double-sided muntin tape or approved equal to permanently apply grids to glass in strict accordance with the application requirements of the tape manufacturer.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION AND PREPARATION

A. If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of deviations from manufacturer's recommended installation tolerances and conditions.

B. Do not proceed with installation until substrates have been properly prepared and deviations from manufacturer's recommended tolerances are corrected. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

C. Commencement of installation constitutes acceptance of conditions.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Install products in strict accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals.

1. Exterior and interior grids shall be aligned exactly back-to-back to simulate divided lites.

2. Muntins shall be centered in width and height when installing, nominal gaps around the grid assuring water and cleaning solutions have a positive flow when running down glass surfaces.

3. Touch up anchor screws to match aluminum framing after installation as needed.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** For tape applied application. Delete if not required.

4. Clean glass prior to taping to glass surfaces.

3.3 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. Protect installed grids from damage during for remainder of construction period, in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
