OLD BUSINESS

QBS E-Blasts: The latest stats of QBS emails to statewide officials were distributed. We will

continue to track these numbers every month. Any committee members who have NOT YET

SENT IN IDEAS OR CASE STUDIES, please do so now. Our inventory needs replenished!

Thought for the future – Pay LTAP to study Indiana LPAs / agencies and report their experiences (& results) using QBS vs. Fee-based proposals. (That way we get Indiana on the grid, we get our own set of case studies, and we ultimately add to the already growing list of states who support QBS at the national level.)

Request for Brad to check with ASCE, and David to check with ITE, on authorization to forward

our E-Blasts through their perspective mailing lists.

QBS Flyers / tri-folds: Colleen has some on-hand for upcoming events, but we are due for an

updated version. TBD

QBS PowerPoint : Draft presented to committee; Mike McBride modified for ASCE; this will also

be used as template for other presentations. ADD slides: How do you choose your subs?

ACEC ENGINEERING LEADERSHIP PROGRAM PRESENTATION

April 29, 2016 – Greenfield Mayor Chuck Fewell; QBS Session 1:15 – 2:15

Colleen, Brad & Shari have a meeting run-through w/the Mayor on Tue, April 19th at 1pm.

Potts Ditch was a fee-based proposal in Greenfield; that project is wrapping up now, but not

without its issues (contractor? design?) Regardless, Mayor Fewell “felt” the results.

He may have an opinion.

QBS FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES

ASCE Indiana Sectional Annual Meeting – April 20, 2016 – Mike McBride presenting QBS.

ITE – Indiana in August; Mayor Brainard invited to speak; Mike McBride will check w/Mayor on

broadening the topic to include a couple slides on the city’s QBS successes.

MPO Policy Board Meetings – NE Indiana – Brian Arterbery awaiting confirmation from Board. AWWA / IWEA – per Toby, abstract submittal process will apply (info forwarded to Colleen).

Toll Road – David Henkel to pursue.

Paid QBS promoter? A discussion was had with former QBS rep Steve Craney. He said in order to bring the QBS back to a level where it should be, the biggest challenge back then (10-12 years ago) was the AIA – the architects - since they were not big QBS supporters. That hurt the engineering profession since much of their work came from the architects. Current AIA Exec Dir is Jason Shelley, and it is believed that AIA now backs QBS.

A part-time QBS Rep position is warranted; due to leadership changes all around us all the time, QBS will be open for CONTINUAL promotion. As ACEC Member Firms, we should all leverage our time when we are in front of boards or commissions, to put in a plug for QBS. (This should also be mentioned in ACEC ‘s Newsletter).

IACC – First day new commissioner training – QBS opportunity (Stephanie Yeager)

IACT – Newly Elected Officials Bootcamp – QBS opportunity (Matt Greller)

AIC – Newly Elected County Officials Training – QBS opportunity (Dave Bodorff)

ACEC ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARDS for 2017

Criteria (due in August); Call for Entries in OCTOBER.

Colleen to send out “additional” suggested questions to be added to the application.

For example: “Did you use the Qualifications Based Selection (QBS) process to procure your

professional services?” “Do you want to be considered for a QBS Award?” Require Owner

Comments for eligibility.

QBS Committee should review this section of the application, and make recommendation for QBS Award. Colleen to note this “new section” of the application in ACEC’s Newsletter.
