Items need to be individually portioned with appropriate serving sizes.
To ensure that all foods served to children are safe and sanitary,
all items shared with other students must be purchased rather than homemade.
Classroom Teachers will advise if snacks are permitted in their classroom.
The above list is a sample of the items that fit the criteria of Kentucky Board of Education Administrative Regulation 702 KAR 6:090, Section 2. Any items that meet the following criteria may also be offered:
  • A school day approved beverage: water, 100% fruit or vegetable juice, low-fat milk;

  • Fruit;

  • Non-fried or non flash-fried vegetables;

  • Low-fat yogurt;

  • Nuts and Seeds;

  • Dried Fruit with no sugar added; or

  • Other food items that contain no more than:

  • Thirty percent (30%) calories from fat;

  • Ten percent (10%) calories from saturated or trans fat; and

  • Fourteen (14) grams sugar per serving.
