Apprentice Program

The Apprentice Program addresses the challenges and interests of up and coming real estate professionals who want to develop their careers and build more valued relationships within the industry. It is a unique opportunity for professionals who have less than five years of experience in the real estate industry to meet and interact with their peers, share experiences and exchange ideas in a relaxed environment. It also provides a forum to network as well as an opportunity to meet and learn from senior industry icons who offer advice, share insights, and divulge the steps taken to achieve their success.

Who Should Participate?

  • Real estate professionals with less than five years of experience who wish to develop their careers
  • BOMA Associate Members who want to learn more about the real estate industry through interactions with real estate professionals
  • BOMA Student Members who hope to develop a basic knowledge of Commercial Real Estate

Currently, the Apprentice Program meets monthly at J. Buck’s in Clayton on the Second Thursday of each month from 3:30 to 5:00 PM

Awards Committee (5 hours in January for TOBY; 360 component is newer so time is unknown)

Recognizing best practices in management and operations of buildings through the promotion of The Outstanding Building of the Year competition and BOMA 360 Performance Program. Offering a workshop to assist members in the submission process, organizing members to volunteer their time to serve as judges in the competition, and developing awards presentations to honor the winners and participants. Typical time commitment includes 2-3 hours in the fall for the workshop, 1-2 days for the judging process.

Careers in Commercial Real Estate(meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month)

The CIRE committee promotes awareness of the opportunities within the commercial real estate industry to students and emerging professionals outside of the present CRE workforce. The committee looks to foster the growth of the CRE industry by developing relationships with local colleges and universities, and offering students the chance to become Student Members. This unique membership opportunity provides students with valuable insight into the industry via different networking opportunities. The committee also offers to share its industry knowledge with professors and their respective classes, as well as student organizations.

Codes Committee

The Codes Committee works with local municipalities and architects to monitor, review, investigate, and educate our members of any proposed International Building Code modifications, updates, introductions. The committee advocates in support or opposition with BOMA Leadership and the St. Louis County Code Committee in order to protect commercial real estate interests before state and local governments.

Communications (ongoing)

Suggests article ideas and topics for the semi-annual Bricks & Mortar publication. Helps proof the edition before printing. Implement and utilize the latest and greatest social media outlets available, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The Communications Committee also assists in organizing and maintaining the BOMA St. Louis website.

Foundations of Real Estate Course (offered annually)

A 5 module (4 day) training course, covering the fundamentals of commercial real estate administration, management, building systems, accounting and reporting, contract management,
and more. The course is held once per year and is instructed by the committee chairs as well as other guest instructors.

Green Committee (ongoing)

To promote energy efficiency and environmental responsibility by creating an atmosphere of awarenessand education.Provide leadership to BOMA members that will help decrease the negative environmental impact associated with building operations and management. As well as provide workshops and seminars on thelatest technologies, codes, and regulations to promote green facilities.

Leasing Guide Committee (6 hours 2x a year)

Works in association with the St. Louis Business Journal to help collect and edit the 800+ building listings that create the St. Louis Leasing Guide. The semi-annual Guide is published in January and July.

Membership Committee (ongoing)

Develops and follows-up on prospective members to recruit new BOMA members. Also educates BOMA members on the benefits of retaining BOMA membership. Studies and recommends policies and procedures relating to the building and maintenance of membership. Reviews other member programs and services.

Programming Committee

The Programming Committee was formed in 2014 to work with the BAE’s to research venues and review/establish the monthly and annual programs/events. Members of the programming committee handle together with the BAE all of the contract negotiations for venues and gather all prevalent information needed to book events. Once venues are established, the programming committee assigns/develops topics/speakers for the monthly luncheons.

Sam Weintraub Scholarship Judging (one day in May or June)

The Sam Weintraub $3,000 Scholarship grant was established to recognize high school and college students who have distinguished themselves academically and socially, and who are valued members in their community. A request for applications is mailed in January with a March 31 deadline for receipt of applications. Applicants must be related to or sponsored by a BOMA St. Louis member. The Committee conducts applicant interviews and chooses the scholarship winner

Our goal as the sponsorship committee is to oversee all sponsorships for the organization. This includes annual association sponsorships and individual event sponsorships (golf, holiday party, etc). We approve the pricing and monitor to ensure the value offered is provided.
