APPOINTMENT OF TEACHER OF DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Design and Technology Department

We require for September 2016, a well-qualified and enthusiastic full-time teacher of Design and Technology to join this excellent department. The successful candidate should be able to teach Resistant Materials to GCSE. The ability to offer Electronic Products to GCSE would be of interest, but is not essential. Experience or the ability to teach Product Design to A Level would also be an advantage.

The Design & Technology Department was first established just over twenty years ago and enjoys purpose built accommodation, good quality facilities and the support of an excellent technician. We work as a team with all D&T staff teaching across all key stages where possible. We pride ourselves on the quality of resources, support and opportunities offered to our students which we believe is rewarded by the experience they gain and the excellent examination results our students achieve.

Design & Technology is taught as a discreet subject in Key Stage 3, with Year seven receiving 4 periods of teaching time per week (2hrs 20mins) and 2 periods per week in Years and 9 (1hr 10mins). The programme of study focus is on working with resistant materials, structures, electronic products, CADCAM and graphic techniques.

Design & Technology is a popular option subject at GCSE and there are currently two sets in each of Year 10 and 11 following the EDEXCEL Resistant Materials and Electronic Products GCSE courses.

There is currently one Design & Technology group in Year 12 and one in Year 13 where we follow the EDECEL Product Design (Resistant Materials) A Level Specification.

The department has been consistently one of the most successful in the School in examinations at both GCSE and A level over many years and celebrates the success of our students with an impressive annual exhibition held in March each year.

The subject is currently taught by two full time subject specialists one of whom has recently secured an exciting new position teaching D&T in Swedenthereby creating this opportunity. We are excited by the prospect of new ideas and input into the Department and welcome applications from both experienced teachers and ambitious NQTs.

Some information about the Area

Caistor is a small country town standing on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Lincoln is 24 miles to the south and Grimsby 12 miles to the east. A good road takes you north over the HumberBridge to Hull in about 30 minutes. From our nearest railway station, Market Rasen, the journey to King's Cross takes between two and a half and three hours.

The School

CaistorGrammar School was founded in 1631 and the original school room is still in use. Most of our work, however, is done in buildings which were substantially remodelled and extended about 15 years ago. Two blocks for Technology, Science and ICT were completed in July 1994. Recent improvements have been made to the accommodation for Art, Music, the Learning Resource Centre and the Sixth Form, as well as the creation of an additional hard surface area for PE. An extensively remodelled Lindsey building was re-opened in 2000 and provides excellent new teaching accommodation for English and Maths. We occupy an attractive site on the side of a hill with views towards the Humber. In 2005, our ManningBuilding was extensively re-modelled to provide improved accommodation for Modern Languages, PE and History. We also gained an all-weather pitch and a new sports pavilion. The school has a new Food Technology Room and new Music facilities. Recently, we have extended our science provision creating the Olympic Torch Building for the teaching of Physics.

In recent years, CaistorGrammar School has achieved distinction in a number of fields. The last four inspections by Ofsted were in October 1995, November 2000, December 2005 and September 2008 with the result that we were named as "Outstandingly Successful" in all four. We are accordingly in Ofsted’s “Hall of Fame” on four occasions, the only school in Lincolnshire to achieve this feat. Our results in recent years have led to us often being the leading school in Lincolnshire at KS3, GCSE and A-level. At A level, for example, we have been the leading school in Lincolnshire for the last 13 years. We were awarded the Sportsmark and Investor in People awards in 1997 and again in 2000, 2004 and 2006. In 2010 we achieved the Silver Investors in People Award. In 1997 we were the first School in Lincolnshire to achieve the Charter Mark Award. We achieved the Healthy Schools Standard in 2007, we gained the International Schools Award (Highest Level) in 2008 and the Artsmark (Silver) Award in 2009. We have an enviable academic record as a perusal of academic league tables will show.

Caistor Grammar School was designated as a Sports College (which started in September 2004) and was a Hub School in Phase 8 of the National School Sport Co-ordinator Programme. In April 2008, we became a High Performing Specialist School, with Humanities as our Second Specialism. On 1 December 2010 we became a Selective Academy.

We have also been actively involved in a number of partnerships with other Lincolnshire Schools. We are a selective school drawing our pupils from the upper 25% of the ability range. All our sixth formers are working for A-levels and nearly all go on to higher education. Our students are well motivated and co-operative. The atmosphere of the School is friendly and purposeful.

We have recruited strongly from the unitary authorities of North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire (previously part of Humberside) as well as Lincolnshire. We currently admit 94 boys and girls to Year 7. We currently have over 655 students on roll including a Sixth Form of over 168.
